They were definitly using Rockmans around the Ram It Down era. I've got an interview where KK and Glenn confirm this (but Glenn to the lesser extent). Painkiller was also rockmans.

Those two albums sound VERY much like Rockmans. I can nearly nail the Ram it down rhythm tone with my Rockman.

It's got Timmy on Vocals and has some pretty good tunes.

I think that without Halford's songwriting, the lyrics are pretty juvenile - sort of living off of DOTF and Painkiller themes. I am pretty sure all of the lyrics were penned by Glenn, I love his guitar playing , but he should let someone else write the lyrics.

I really liked a bunch of tunes from Demolition and some off of Jugulator.
Particularly One on One and Subterfuge.

There are a few that are unlistenable and unexcusable - Cyberface comes to mind as the absolute worst lyrics/filler song EVER produced by Judas Priest and sounds like someone got a few computer buzzwords off of the news and tried to write a horror story for 60 year olds that are scared of computers.

Have to agree with you there. Subterfuge would be my favourite Demolition song. The production on that album is pretty dire though.

I find Glenn's lead playing pretty lacking these days...the stuff on Defenders was phenomenal (I LOVE Glenn's solo on some heads are gonna roll) the Turbo stuff was pretty good (Reckless) and Ram it Down had amazing leads, but around Painkiller on he got sorta boring and a bit sloppy sounding. His solo album has pretty generic sounding leads I think.

Yeah I think that's why I never really had much interest. Not to say Ripper
doesn't do a bad job but compared to the metal god who can? That and I caught some songs one night on the radio when it was released not sure what album maybe Jugulator and I thought for a new album it sounded kind of dated with hokey lyrics.

But that was a hell of long time ago so time to give it another shot.

Priest have delivered (along with the goods) so many buttock-clenchingly appalling lyrics, but those there are definitely the worst. You're right, they were written to scare 60 yr olds off computers - though I don't think KK and Co are quite that old yet. Close.

Demolition is a pretty damn good album, better than Angel of Retribution IMHO

I loved Jugulator, couldn't get into Demolition that much. Maybe I need to listen to it a little more. I didn't pick up AOR, though.

Heres imo a great tune to show case the whole Priest machine during this era.
For the record, I think Tim was a fine lead singer for the Priest machine during this era.
I thought he did the Halford stuff and the new stuff of that era really well.
People need to try remember, it was a whole different Priest machine during this era.
Exploring new musical terrorities and possibilities, they wasn't at that time trying to rehash and create something famaliar. I thought they did a decent job, I liked both albums from this era.
A buddy sent me a boot of when the just had Tim and went out and did a very small jugulator tour.
It was a small high school venue fair to bad visual quality, BUT, Tims performance was sooooo much better then the "live in London" release.

"Defenders" was my first taste of JP when I was in 5th grade. Fell instantly in love with the band, so therefore it remains my all time fav JP album. Just amazing all around production for a metal album at that time. Great songs as well. There is a reason why Priest is still admired and worshiped today. Maybe not the most "technically" flashy band but amazing songwriters and they still put on a show. Just like Maiden.

I thought the Ripper era wis kick ass as well. Jugulator was a killer album, just recently got Demolition and I really like it as well. The live stuff is great with Tim especially the dvd's. Sad I missed them while he was singing. I like the most that he kind of quit trying to do "Halford" and just sang like himself on Demolition.

it's a metal masterpiece, priest has a lot of great albums, and every band has an album that defines them (usually the one before everything starts to go south, lol), and could be considered their peak, this is theirs, imo.

While Screaming For Vengeance is the album that made me want to be a guitar player, Defenders is my fav Priest album. I saw 'em live in Philly on that tour. I wanted a Hamer Phantom BAD after that !
