    I promised, I promised on dear departed Momma's grave I wouldn't get into the Megadeth pissing matches...BUT...

    Megadeth=Spinal Tap.

    There. And I'm sticking to it.

    sorry dude but that's a pretty silly statement, there are VERY few who could replicate Nicko's feel and the way how he plays.

    The thing about Megadeth for me is, and I know some people are going to jump down my throat for this, is that in my humblest of opinions, they are a nostalgia band. I'll explain; Dave Mustaine's style is routed deeply in the 80's, meaning the riffs, the lyrics, the themes and the guitar tones. Nothing Megadeth has put out (with the possible exception of Risk) has surprised me. I want to go see Megadeth to enjoy what it was and what the band and the music meant to me growing up. I'm not exited about the new album. I want to listen to Hangar 18, Ashes in you mouth, 5 Magicks etc. I don't care if Junior is the worst bass player on the planet, or if Marty is technically inferior to Chris Poland. Would Iron Maiden be the same without Nicko or Dave Murray? Of course anyone could replicate their tones and feel, but it wouldn't be the same band for me. Megadeth for me is Dave, Marty, Nick and Junior. Otherwise I'm not interested. If you are, more power to you, but I can wait and listen to other stuff through more faceless, interchangeable Megadeth releases until DM sees the light.

    I personally don't think folks should try to rank him in with the megadeth line of players quite yet. firstly, it's still a rumour (most likely true, but you never know). Also, playing a gig like Megadeth is different than JP, you don't know how his playing style will fit in with Megadeth and you don't know how he may fit in the song writing process. Chris could rock, he could be exactly what Mustaine needs as a lead player, he could not work out....we just don't know yet! I'd atleast like to give him the benefit of the doubt and congratulate him on landing a pretty high profile gig! I have always liked Jag Panzer's stuff and think it'd be awesome to hear a bit of that in with Megadeth! But, I am a little bummed that it won't be Jeff Waters (although that'd be bitter sweet as I wouldn't want Annihilator to take a break!)

    I started to think that the new solos are gonna suck,too.

    It will raise the profile of a player like Broderick for sure... especially at the beginning, curiosity factor. Also Megadeth is a known 'showcase band' for the lead guitar spot, and attracts a degree of attention because of that.

    Al Pitrelli is a fantastic player, always was. Didn't quite fit in Megadeth in some ways, but I think it was 'just a paying gig' for him, and he was 'just a rental' for Dave. His mentality is different, since he is a session player/teacher type more than a band guy. His solos on TWNAH are up to snuff.

    Broderick... I dunno. Not that interesting a choice to me. I would immediately put him at the bottom of the list of Megadeth lead players.

    As for Polands playing on TSHF, it sucked royally, since it was a marketing idea of Daves, and I don't think Poland gave a sweet rats ass about it. He tossed of some quick solos, grabbed a cheque and ran out the door as fast as he could.

    Exactly. Even Mustaine said that Junior couldn't sing. He was a decent bass player, but I think Mustaine wrote a lot of the stuff anyway and told Junior to play it.

    Chris Broderick's joining Megadeth is just a rumor right now, but I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up in the band.

    it seems like a very commercial album to me... There is no word of blood and demons and stuff..

    He made the album about the fucking United Nations for christ sake..

    What's up with the Jim/James thing for all of Dave's bass players now?!? :ROTF:
