I personally don't think folks should try to rank him in with the megadeth line of players quite yet. firstly, it's still a rumour (most likely true, but you never know). Also, playing a gig like Megadeth is different than JP, you don't know how his playing style will fit in with Megadeth and you don't know how he may fit in the song writing process. Chris could rock, he could be exactly what Mustaine needs as a lead player, he could not work out....we just don't know yet! I'd atleast like to give him the benefit of the doubt and congratulate him on landing a pretty high profile gig! I have always liked Jag Panzer's stuff and think it'd be awesome to hear a bit of that in with Megadeth! But, I am a little bummed that it won't be Jeff Waters (although that'd be bitter sweet as I wouldn't want Annihilator to take a break!)

The thing about Megadeth for me is, and I know some people are going to jump down my throat for this, is that in my humblest of opinions, they are a nostalgia band. I'll explain; Dave Mustaine's style is routed deeply in the 80's, meaning the riffs, the lyrics, the themes and the guitar tones. Nothing Megadeth has put out (with the possible exception of Risk) has surprised me. I want to go see Megadeth to enjoy what it was and what the band and the music meant to me growing up. I'm not exited about the new album. I want to listen to Hangar 18, Ashes in you mouth, 5 Magicks etc. I don't care if Junior is the worst bass player on the planet, or if Marty is technically inferior to Chris Poland. Would Iron Maiden be the same without Nicko or Dave Murray? Of course anyone could replicate their tones and feel, but it wouldn't be the same band for me. Megadeth for me is Dave, Marty, Nick and Junior. Otherwise I'm not interested. If you are, more power to you, but I can wait and listen to other stuff through more faceless, interchangeable Megadeth releases until DM sees the light.I feel festive all year round. Deal with it.

no problem man, just saying because Nicko's style is 180 degrees the opposite how the other heavy metal drummers play"There is nothing more fearful than imagination without taste" - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Regarding a previous comment, Megadeth may or may not be a nostalgia band. But there are lots of us who still like the general sound of the 80s/early 90s metal music. Personally, I'm getting tired of listening to the same stuff over and over again. We don't have as many options as we used to for hearing new music in the same vein. We can listen to new bands who copy and evolve that sound (and who those bands are could be a whole other thread but Iced Earth jumps to my mind), or we can listen to new material from the original gods and masters. Whether or not the new material is as inspired or original or even as good as the older material is another topic for debate, but it's what we got. Therefore I am vested in it and very interested, original members or no.

Originally posted by toejam View PostTrue, but it still sounds like Megadeth even without him. Hell, IMO, Jimmie Lee Sloas (bass player on the album) and James McDonough who did the tour, as well as James Lomenzo who is on UA and in the band now, are all better bass players.
What's up with the Jim/James thing for all of Dave's bass players now?!? :ROTF:Ron is the MAN!!!!
