Al Petrelli is a good player, but he was a genuine assfuck when John and I saw Savatage..he rolled his eyes everytime they didn't do one of his gay songs and a classic that Criss Oliva wrote. Then he pouted like a baby and turned his back to anyone who tried to talk to him..while Chris Caffery was cool as fuck and thinking the same thing. He covers alot of ground as a session guy but nothing outstanding IMO..I actually think he's very generic with no DEFINITIVE style of his own. Not like anyone he replaces and fills in for...and like CP, MF, GD, CB, EDV, RR, YJM, UJR, CO, GL, PG, TM, MS, GH, ZW, JL , hundreds (you figure 'em out) could fart a single note and we'd all recognize it immediately!!!

Yep Al nails the solos pretty well on "Rude Awakening". And he makes it look easy too, with the guitar low slung and a smile on his face. I thought he was a great 'Deth guitarist, but I also like Drover's leads on UA.
I hope this new character is allowed to show what he can do.

If you watch the "rude awakening" DVD and the "that one night" DVD. Al plays the solos note for note more like the albums versions then Glen does IMO. IM not saying hes a better player than Glen, i personally like Glen i thought he fit in well with the band.... but i would never have guessed Chris Broderick to be the next Deth guitarist. I cant wait to see whats gonna come out of that!

Al was the best at MF solos

Every time I saw them play with Al, he didn't even attempt Marty's solos and instead just improvised some shredding. Total disappointment.

The few times I've seen them with Glen I thought he did a pretty good job with them. It's hard to play someone else's solos with the same feel as the original player.
