See, Rick gave John the freedom to do what he wanted to. That's why they are so good IMO, a man doing the music HE wants too, with complete freedom/cooperation from the label/producer etc. Other good covers on those albums, One (U2), Solitary Man (Neil Diamond), Sea of Heartbreak (Don Gibson), Personal Jesus (can't remember who did that)..a bunch of good ones.
I can still barely listen to this song, because it is so powerful, it's just beyond words.

One of my favorite song.
His version of "Bridge over Troubled Water", make me teary eyed, everytime I hear it.
There is something so raw in his voice, that adds a whole layer of emotion, that I have never heard in any other version.
