  • Loomis' best album showing?

I got into Nevermore a couple years ago--with "This Godless Endeavor." However, I was listening to some older Nevermore stuff last night (e.g., Enemies of Reality, DHDW, etc.) and it caused me to wonder which Nevermore album best displays Loomis' technique/skill?

    Dude's a moster, fo sho!

    Godless Endeavor, bar none.

Second place would probably be Dead Heart.

well....they're all damn good, just different.
if you're looking for shred, i guess TGE and maybe also enemies features his most all out shred work.
dead heart is more focused on songwriting and melody (although there's some rad stuff on there too), older stuff tends to be more weird sounding for a lack of a better term.
seriously, imho TGE is his most technical record, starting with the shreddy born solo all the way to the harmonized diminished sweeps at the end of the title track.
and the fact that warrel actually sings on that stuff makes it even cooler ;-)

Dead Heart In A Dead World shows off his genius the most.

I love all of the Nevermore CD's but I think on "Enemies of Reality" and
"This Godless Endeavor " Loomis is really showing us his best so far.

The remix of Enemies is my favorite CD of theirs, it's just so nasty and in your face from beginning to end.

And Van Williams (the drummer, for those of you not in the know here) is monstrous on Enemies.
That was the first CD of Nevemore's I ever heard and it's still my Favorite,
but I like em all, easily my favorite metal band.
If this is our perdition, will you walk with me?

Every Nevermore album is great! I've been partial to Dreaming Neon Black lately.

                  You would kill for a 7 string 25.5'' Dominion, wouldn't you ?

I think they get better per release. You can really see Loomis maturing in his songwriting and lead playing from album to album as he gets older. Great playing AND great tone. Glad he switched to Engl too! I guess he's doing a solo album as well.

                            hehe..

                            how long ago this was..

That was at the BW & BK six pack..Jeff and I were watching Candlemass..he went complete ape shit for Candlemass!!

Curran Murphy (Nevermore/Annihilator/Shatter Messiah) is in my bud's band..being produced ny Neil Kernon.

I wopuld have to say get ALL of NM's releases they all have something to offer..NM's first s/t is amazing as their second Politics of Ecstacy..followed by the In Memeory EP..then Dreming in Neon Black, then Dead Heart in a Dead World, then Enemies of Reality (get the Andy Sneap version), and Godless Endeavor...he is currently working on a solso release, did some work on Warrel Dane's soon to be released solo cd also w/ James Murphy. He also did the guitars on Pamela Moore's cd..who played Sister Mary on Queenryche's operation mindcrime.

I met and watched Jeff/NM evolved since early '96. He used to play a black RR and Triaxis and and Mesa Boogie Poweramp, then he went with a Pod pro same poweramp, then a Recto, Then XXX, then Krank , that was the ONLY time his rythm's sounded muddy..but it was still passible. He sounded best with his Recto..he completely ruled with that amp..even tho I don't like Rectos myself. Once COB opened for him several years ago, and Alexi and crew were really on their game, I was thinking ..wow, Jeff has to follow this. When Nevermore came on with his Recto. Everyone completely forgeot about COB..it was a slaughter..Jeff is a fuggin' monster..the best player in metal in the last 13 years..IMO!

As far as getting familar with NM..do what I always do. Get their last cd and go backwards. Start with This Godless Endeavor, then Enemies of Reality, Dead heart in a dead world, Dreaming in neon black, Politics of ecstacy, In Memory and their awesome debut..they reissued the first couple that have are remastered with bonus tracks including demo's which I really want..but I hate buying cds all over again...when I have new stuff I still have to buy.

I met JL when I was still in my VH tribute..until then, my man was Ed. Jeff took his spot as far as my main inspiration since...which brought me to a higher level.

Jeff does not apply theory to any of his writing. He's simply jams until he comes across something he likes. Whenever he's asked when it comes to how he does solos and ect..he always responds with.."I just go for it"..he's a VERY humble and cool dude.

I have some pretty silly stories/memories about some old NM shows..
