  • Saw Symphony X in Hamburg yesterday

    They were SPOT ON!
And I was first row in front of Michael Romeo to experience it.

He played his maple board Caparison Dellinger into a G-System, with an ENGL Powerball and a Fireball in his rack through ENGL cabs.

Those guys really enjoy themselves on stage, Michael Romeo was all smiles and Russel Allen was making lots of funny faces... Russel also did stuff like touching Mike's whammy bar once during a solo and then acting up like it was the best thing ever done.
The guys were really having a blast and got a great response too, Russel told the crowd they were nervous about it being the first show on the tour, and that they had not expected to get such a good response.

BTW I thought Russel Allen looked quite a bit like Ron (RacerX).

There might be some vids of the show on youtube soon... at least I saw a guy in the first row filming quite a lot with his digicam.

I feel festive all year round. Deal with it.

Yeah I've seen them 7 times and each time they're always on and having tons of fun. They obviously really enjoy playing.

Surprised to hear Romeo wasn't using his Vetta though. He's had that on tour ever since 2001 and used it to record their latest album.

The chip or board went on it just after the recording. But I was told it was repaired (and it was in use on the US tour last year)
Also - maybe the ENGL rig is part of a rental backline ??

That's probably it. These days, you don't see too many indie metal guys dragging their rig all the way across the Atlantic.

Can't wait to see them again here in a few months myself.

Every time I've seen them they always look like they just got laid and won the lottery!

Michaels been using line 6 for a while now so I'm surprised to here he's using Engl now.

There's an older video on Youtube of him with a Pod XT Pro and Marshall tube poweramp also, I guess before he got his Vetta.
Currently at 78 guitars - Paul Reed Smith, Jackson, Robin, Washburn, Carvin, Peavey, U.S. Masters, G&L, Hamer, Godin, BC Rich, Yamaha, Fender, ESP, Kramer, Cort, Ibanez, Aria Pro & Charvel

He used both an ENGL Fireball and his Vetta on the last record, so I'm not surprised he used ENGL's at the show. I agree they are probably rented , but I guess he went with what he knows (even more since we are in Germany, home of all things ENGL). And it's easier to initially set up an ENGL than a Vetta.

I didn't take any pics, but there might be some showing up on the web soon.

I just took a look and there's a blurb on Engl's site about how Romeo is now an endorser.
