This was someone saying, "hey, check this guy out doing so, and so, pretty good" and so it was, not "this guys stuff is amazing" anyway.
I'm sure this guy does these covers for the youtube crowd anyways.
Most non musicians and or the general population, or budding musicians,
what's the first thing they ask of you? "Hey can you play so and so...."?
He seems to have gotten his name out there very well! Right?
You think he gets many band offers?, I'll bet the fuck he does.
I would be suprised if he didn't.
Another thing, i pretty much believe that if this guy has this much control over his instrument, he could compose his own music, and he could improvise great.

Randy Hansen, he is a Jimi Hendrix "clone", he probably is the definitive "clone" if there ever was one, this guy is it. I saw him live, at a festival for Hendrix here in Seattle, among those who played were....Stanley Jordan...Vernon Reid, Mike Mcready, and i can't remember who else, lol, Heart i think but even after seeing all these great guitarist, who did awesome Hendrix songs and jams. Randy Hansen was fucking KICK ASS! You thought you just saw Hendrix, but at the same time, he had his own kinda magic, it was frikin great, and i left there thinking he was the shit, clone or no clone, the show was great, his playing was PHENOMINAL.

Theres also some "clones" at your local symphony, they play cover tunes all day long and at the end of the day, they get payed.
I never questioned his abilities but questioned if he create or improvise..two different things imho.. Classical music ai a whole different ball of wax. There are only 12 notes in music so there is a lot of copy cats...I tend to like players who have some form of originality instead of ripping off others who are original...thats all. Also there are a million and one bedroom players who have this kinda of talent who are NOT getting paid...wonder why that is?

Yeah they are as a matter of fact. The new singer in Journey was found because of his youtube Journey covers, as was the guy that almost got the gig. I'm sure it happens alot more than you think.

Yep, kinda ignorant to think it doesn't happen.
Shawn, how is it any different for classical?
Let me just say, Yes, i totally agree with you about striving to create your own material, i quit coping tunes a long time ago, in effort to create for myself, yes.
But, like i said, i'm pretty confident the guy can improvise, anyone should be able to do that within a year of playing anyway, you should be able to improvise over some easy chords for sure. Honestly, i've seen guys in cover bands at bars, and bullshitted with them, eventually to find, that when not out making some extra cash doing cover tunes in bars, they are ripping some jazz shit in their home studio. That is great, but right now, it's not paying the bills,...so to speak.

And to quote what destructin_od said "That Cesar Hucesca guy has been favorited by Vai too. He is a good player. I don't care if he is a clone or not. He can play".

If he continues playing, and does eventually start pushing his own material, he will most likely be out there living it, and "getting payed".

And lets face it,...everyone who ever picked up the instrument, started by playing someone elses tunes, EVH anyone?

Possibly because they are not motivated enough to go out and do something about it.

Yep. Neil Schon looked for hours on Youtube to find the new Journey singer.

If this guy had put up a just few originals instead, no one here would be talking about them, no matter how great those originals might be. The quality of his "cloning" has brought him to everyone's attention - whether he can get it down on some original material will determine his staying power.
**** He's about to release his first CD of ORIGINALS! :-))
If all goes well..then he will get "Paid"! Remember a guy named
Shawn Lane? He never made any money either, but there probably was
NEVER a better guitar player on earth. Sometimes the best ones are
                overlooked imo.

Of course bands are searching youtube for members. Hell, record companies are searching youtube and myspace for bands to sign. It's a new age. We will hear about a lot of hacks.

Shawn Lane, Rusty Cooley, Dave Weiner, none of these guys are "known" except for a small circle of guitarists. Thats the way it is. Instrumental guitarists will never be as big as boy bands or Whitney Houston wannabes or those kind of "acts". It's the nature of the beast, it only appeals to a very, very small section of the market. It doesn't sell enough for the big companies to even mess with it. Hence Shrapnel Records and Vai's own label Favored Nations. Those guys give these great guitarist a chance, but I still think they don't move a lot of units.

Is the guy good or a clone? Does it really matter? Either way, he'll get as far as he can doing what he does. I bet youtube is the only place we will see him now or in the future.
