I refuse to listen to the whole album yet. Checked out two songs. I've waited nearly 10 years for new material from Testament, I can torture myself for another week.
I want the full experience of going to the music store, buying it, throwing it in the cd player in my truck, and going on a joyride listening to it back to back. Because I'm ghey like that.

Bought it right on the 25th (release date for Europe, haha).
It's been spinning in my player constantly since then, it just doesn't get boring!

Just an FYI....ran to Walmart this morning, and Meijer yesterday and both of these 'big' chains didn't have it. The lady at Walmart told me they don't get all the new releases every week. Yeah! Just the typical crap the music industry tries to spoon-feed everyone. Guess I'm headed to Best Buy today.

I got mine on monday. I'm not very impressed. I think the mix sucks. The guitars have no bite and the solos don't stand out in the mix and aren't spectacular. There's a few good songs but for the most part I find it a bit boring.

Well I listened to it round a friends house and we had only listened to it for a bit when we both thought "This is dull". Mediocre and generic, but Chucks voice does sound good.

give it a chance. at first i also found the album to be mediocre and just sub par when put up against their previous record the gathering.
however, the more you listen to it, the better it gets. it's definitely a kickass record. i do kinda miss one or two songs like legions of the dead, as many of the songs are mostly mid tempo. the thing is, there's just too much going on, hence it's not a record that kicks your ass with the first listen.

i do however NOT understand the bad mix comment....the mix sounds *REALLY* good imho, better than most of sneaps other works - and he's never been bad as far as i'm concerned. the drums sound natural, the rhythm guitars are ripping and have a very nice top end sizzle, and skolnicks leads stick out like never before. simply awesome.

What Fragle said. The album definetely needs some digesting but the more I listen to it the more I like it.

My friend gave it me, been listening to it in the car, and I can still say it's forgettable, mediocre and nothing special. Sounds old which isn't good.

Oh well, PTH's new album is keeping me hooked (Best of 2008 so far) and Misery Signal's new album might even top that.

I really like it..but it doesn't come close the enegry/power/hooks of the gathering IMO. Which goes to show solos are always cool but not mandatory. Skolnick is an awesome player, but prefer James Murphy's writing/style in every way shape and form.

The new stuff grows on you..but the gathering only had to hit you once!

I really like this album, but i think the solos are a bit weak. Over all though the riffs are hard and I love it, just the solo are lacking in my opinion!

I'm not that impressed with them myself..to be honest. He was better back in the day IMO. My standards are higher with guitarist that has evolved to another level since.

..and I never gave a flying fuck for his fusion bullcrap..which sounds like a well oiled trainwreck to me. There's better players in that genre as well. I loved Alex up to he joined Savatge in '95. I bought my 95 San Dimas Koa because of that fuck..he platued at that time IMO. When he was in that camp I gained even more appreciation for Criss Oliva.

I too wasn't really impressed of the solos.. it seems like they were quickly improvised over the tracks.

That being said... Alex is getting better and better.... anyone heard his jazz trio? now that's some crazy shit they are playing... definetly more demanding than Testament.

Yeah, I'm not really into his fusion stuff. To be it always sounds on a brink of derailment. I mean I rather listen to real fusion guys or crossovers dudes like Howe, MacAlpine, Holdworth, Gambale, Shawn Lane, Dimeola, Stevens, Kotzen, even Zappa and Poland and ect (you know)..who do well in flexing their muscles in more solid "song" oriented material. I look at it as a whole, ryjthm section and all. The BEST I've ever seen Alex was when he toured with Stu Hamm in the early 90's..he did Stu's solo material originally recorded by Satch, Harry Cody amoung others..he was truly amazing that tour...you would have loved that one E!! I was blown away that night!!
