I used to be a big DT fanboy. I grew up and out of it, but I still retain my screen name from eons ago.

Derek was the best of the bunch in my opinion. Falling Into Infinity was a great album. People tend to overlook it due to it's soft edges and simple songwriting. It's DT meets the Beatles and it's beautiful. Nowadays I stray more into the heavier side of metal (with flourishes of jazz and classical from back in my younger days, if that makes any sense), but if at any time I decide I'm in the mood for some DT I'll throw Falling Into Inifinity or Images and Words in the player. Nothing else really does it for me.

I don't care for U2 or Static X so I tend to stray from DT's newer albums entirely.

Images & Words is a great album, but when I saw DT live it was boring as hell.

            Nevermind.
            I'm reading here, not posting.
Endrik already said what I was going to say.

Never was a DT fan, although several times random people directed me towards them. I just never could get into their music for whatever reason. Last year I saw JP on the G3 tour. By far and away his 'set' was my least favorite of the 3. It seemed to me his goal was to play as many notes as he could during the time he was on stage, and each song (3 maybe?) sounded like the previous one. Even my 12 yo son, who is ALL about playing fast metal, was not moved. He is a fantastically gifted player, but he (and DT) just don't speak to me.

That was hilarious! I like the one where he's bitching about fantasy football too.

I think Dream Theater is one of the best bands out there right now if not the best! I've seen them live three times and they never disappoint. Those who find them boring probably don't like the 10+ minute songs. Also, to most people their stuff is too complex. To me, I love it! to say Petrucci is just about fast technique is not accurate at all. That guy can play fast, slow, jazz, heavy as can be, whatever. Ever listen to a slow solo from him such as on Anna Lee? The same guy can rip on Voices, my favorite Dream Theater song btw.
While on the subject, here's a first for my band. A local bar owner found out that we do one Dream Theater song, Pull Me Under, and booked us because he figured anyone who can pull that off must be good. So for the only time ever, someone actually recognized a Dream Theater song and it did us some good When we play that song live, the reactions on the audiences faces look like either they're thinking that was a cool original song or we're from outer space :ROTF: BTW, I also love the 80's hair bands! Its all good!
