I got too used to Pig Man, from too much radio play.
Sheep is stunning, also. Richard Wright's keyboard work on that song
is...phenomenal. And the way Gilmour plays off the keybaord solo is amazing as well.

Dogs Part I has some badass Gilmour soloing on it. They have that perfect balance between sounding improvised and thought out, you just can't be sure. Oh, and great tone to boot.

After the Wall was released, and the movie, then the downfall...
I learned about the peronaltites of the members of the band. I can't say I know much of anything about Mason, just a little bit about Wright. Gilmour is one of the good guys.
He "took care" of Syd Barrett, in making sure the royalties were properly handled, and Barrett suposedly stayed on the "payroll" for the rest of his life because of Gilmour.
Waters, on the other hand...I don't have many good things to say about him, except he's a passable bassist and has a talent for writing lyrics. The content of those lyrics mirror his personality. Dour, and depressing.
If it wasn't for that, Pink Floyd would be at the top of my list, instead of Rush.

I'm not so sure about that good guy / bad guy scheme ! There's always 2 (if not 3) sides on every story ! Back then I would have agreed, that Waters "killed" Pink Floyd - I didn't even buy The Final Cut - but having read lots of interviews of both Waters and Gilmour, I think it was just the standard reason, why backyard/garage bands and stadium bands split up: because of EGOs !

I saw them both live 2 years ago and their performances just mirrored what is known: Waters the perfectionist, who can't stop to "say" something and Gilmour the musician. Waters performing DSOTM in absolute accuracy and Gilmour playing/improvising at his best. Funny enough to see Jon Carin in both bands (good interview on brain-damage.co.uk) ! And there was one song in both setlists, that really stood out: Comfortably Numb !

I think, they both have their place in any Hall of Fame

Man... I grew up listening to this stuff. One thing about Floyd is that their playing is so fucking good then you back up and actually listen to what they are putting forth in their lyrics and there is just this whole new level of.... Heavy.

I have seen PF play a few times and I was stoked to have 10th row seats to Gilmour's On and Island tour. That is one band that has never left me unsatisfied. Their production, musicianship is just timeless. DSOTM, Animals, Wall, Final Cut, Atom Heart Mother, Wish You Were Here and even thier newer stuff. Just epic quality playing.

Well my Uncle was a big fan of Floyd and was the manager of a famous pop singer in the 80's (Donovan or somethin'?), but this Donovan guest appeared on a Gilmour album so my Uncle was there in the studio with Gilmour.

After the week they spent in the studio, my Uncle got home and dumped all his Pink Floyd records in the bin, apparently in his words he is "An absolute control freak, biggest tosser I've ever met". Shame with these musicians, after they found a cure for cancer they sould find a cure for egomania with Axl as guinea pig.

what's the point throwing the records away? big ego doesn't make the music sound any worse
"There is nothing more fearful than imagination without taste" - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

VERY true. Some of the best musicians (and talented people in other fields) were huge egomaniacs.

Even Beethoven was full of himself from what I've read.

True, doesn't make the music sound worse, but I asked him about it lately and he said it wasn't the greatest idea to have done, but at the time he couldn't listen to a note produced by Dave, because it just reminded him of the tosser and the fact he had a great talent and was prick about it. A shame he threw his Floyd records away, he had managed to get "Pipers at the Gates...." on first press record, and those go over thousands now on eBay. Maybe thats why they say never meet your idols.
