Doesn't Godsmack fall within that last 10 year period for a debut album? That was slightly freakin' awesome.

I caught the Black Tide Shockwave video, was actually very solid, especially considering their ages.

Considering the ages of alot of scandinavian heavy hitters..these kids are both old and lame. Don't get me statred with that list. I don't have enough time to type it ....or you to read it.

Shadows Fall debute "Somber eyes to the sky" is pretty bad. They didn't get their "stride" until after their CM debut "Of one blood"..CM backed them, promoted them, helped produce them, package them and hit the Ozzfest..but those dudes' earned it. I partied with those fucks all night at my friends bar until 5 am ..fuggin' Jon D puked on my boots..but its all good. You know..you can't tell if he's drunk..he's one of those guys..but he can play.

Don't be blinded by this "age" thing..my kid is already kicking my ass. Guys like Jason Becker, Paul Gilbert, Marty Freidman, Jeff Loomis, Yngwie, Eddie, Randy, Alexi Laiho, Magnus Karlsson, Dime and countless others..just reached fuggin' puberty when they were kicking ass.

I give Black Tide a 5 for extremely average in the big scheme..and that's being very generous.

Personally..I can write and play better than anything they have shown me, and I'm fuggin' lame in the big pic..but we all know that talent isn't ..well..anything important.

Nah..just like Trivium..Black Tide..is "cute"..they're like a metal boy band. Let 'em practice a couple more years and come back with something worth a damn..and I hope that happends..but this ain't it...trust me.

Well, this is the difference between people who are more into modern black/death metal and some of us older people who still enjoy old-school type Metallica, Ratt, Dokken, etc. I know a lot of people bagged hard on Trivium's latest CD but I loved the living $hit out of it. Fuck it, yeah it's nothing new but I still enjoy good old school metal. Cookie monster vocals do nothing for me.

You must have had Bill really young... he's in his 40s, I believe. :ROTF: And I'm 35.

I just turned 44 but feel like 144. Hey, I think Im the world's most unbiased metal fan. I've been loyal to the scene and underground since I was 13. I devoted that time and well over 80k worth of my hard earned dough to support and get to know what I love most. Even when there wasn't a "scene" for over 15 years, it always existed in my world. I love ALL genres of metal as long as it has some musical value. Something I could appreciate to listen to and inspire my own creativity..I can even get past bad vocals (clean or not) if the music is killer and have riffs that are out of my reach..it certainly made me the player I am. You are what you eat.. (Nevermore/Arch Enemy)

I defended Trivium when they came out..I think their musical abilities outshine these kids by a long shot. At least when I hear a Trivium song an occasional riff will catch my attention and make me raise an eyebrow..that's called inspiration.

Why am I picturing a bunch of 8 year old blonde kids in a Malmsteen cover band? I'm not up on that scene so I'll take your word for it.

Sure there's a lot of of great young players and bands out there, but less than 1% of them even have the success Black Tide is already having. Maybe it is more of an age gimmicky thing in the US that breaks them through faster, but it was pretty solid from what I heard.

Well, I did a bunch of hours driving on the road today and I gave the Black Tide CD a listen 3 times through. It's a pretty good CD but I guess not as good as I originally posted in my half drunken state last Sunday night But seriously, after listening to the new Def Lepard, new Whitesnake and then the new Black Tide all in a row...... yeah, it came out sounding great. I'm still a fan, still like the CD. Best debut in 10 years, nah..... that was horseshit. Good CD, sure. I'm anxious to hear what both Trivium and Black Tide will do on their next CD's.

I thought the last Trivium album was great but i guess it's not cool to dig it. I don't give a fuck but there is some corny love song on their i always skip, strange to hear that mixed in.

I bought the Black Tide album and i thought it was just allright. It seems a lot slower than when i hear it on the radio. I thought the Hit the Lights cover sucked, very uninspired sounding.

Just curious, but how many people who've posted on this thread had an album out at that age? And of those, how many sold as many albums? Had the fan base that they do?

I find it kind of amusing that in a lot of these threads people bash Metallica for not sounding like old Metallica and then people bash this band because "They are nothing new" well, yeah they are a throw back to 80's, but that's a good thing. it's not going to be everyones cup of tea, but then again neither is Cannibal Corpse of one of these lame ass black metal bands. To each their own.

I'm just happy that the band shows promise. We need more talent waving the metal flag out there and getting notice. If they are solid now, wait until the next album when they have touring under their belts, and more experience. They'll either do well or be an epic fail, but it's still a hella of a lot more then i've done professionally, and probably a lot more then most of the people on here have.
