I find it kind of amusing that in a lot of these threads people bash Metallica for not sounding like old Metallica and then people bash this band because "They are nothing new" well, yeah they are a throw back to 80's, but that's a good thing. it's not going to be everyones cup of tea, but then again neither is Cannibal Corpse of one of these lame ass black metal bands. To each their own.

I'm just happy that the band shows promise. We need more talent waving the metal flag out there and getting notice. If they are solid now, wait until the next album when they have touring under their belts, and more experience. They'll either do well or be an epic fail, but it's still a hella of a lot more then i've done professionally, and probably a lot more then most of the people on here have.
Hey i think it is great that the kids got signed and are being promoted like they are. I like the CD and i'm sure i'll listen to it quite a bit but you have to admit that part of their novelty are that they are so young. There are better thrash acts with better songs that are out there that are unsigned. I have heard them.

I just realized Black Tide is on the Bullet FMV tour that I'm checking out in 10 days or so. Some of the BT songs have grown on me over the summer.

Should at least get to hear some Jacksons playing loud if the sound is right.

I've only partly listened to shockwave, watching the video now, but it's very kea era tallica, I think Billls spot on in they can probably be really great in a few years but right now theyre kinda meh....

I'm sure i'd get a betteridea with the CD which I will buy...But I will say for me sonata Arctica's Ecliptica was released in 99 and I doubt these guys could tocuh those fins for songwriting...

          Tis all opinions though....

I guess BT would make good rock party music...

Yeah, its probably hard to expect great songwriting from such a young group, assuming they did write the songs on the cd, ages 14-19 I believe. Hard to capture that Kill 'em All type of magic for a debut major release at that age.

I'm interested to see how they sound live though and will at least have an interest in the opening act for a tour of this level.

I'm sure, as Bill has said, there's lots better in an apples to apples comparison, but I'm just not exposed to them and haven't taken the time to look.

I just listened to them for the first time... nothing special but they sound like a fun rock'n'roll band.... can't say that about most of the new young bands.

Funny thing is that all those new Scandinavian bands which are known in US are absolute horeshit compared to the bands which are locally big and cool but somehow unknown in US.

Went to the Black Tide/Bleeding Through/Bullet For My Valentine show and was totally blown away. Surprisingly, it was full of Jackson guitars too.

First up was Black Tide. Why in the hell they were the opening band with only 30 minutes given to play I will never understand. You could tell the crowd was there just as much to see Black Tide as BFMV. Black Tide was really, really good. The live show was heavier than the CD and had a lot more dual guitar crunch/shred breakdowns. Seriously, watching those guys reminded me of watching a young Megadeth. The singer had a new Jackson neck-thru flametop green custom Kelly that I had never seen before in any videos. The lead guitar player played an ESP for the first song but then switched to a Jackson reverse headstock Dinky, all stickered up, for the rest of the show. After their 30 minutes, they hung around in the merchandise area for the rest of the night for everyone to meet. It's really strange watching them up on stage just tearing it up like seasoned pros and then you go to meet them and they are SO YOUNG !!! and nice. Really great band, very impressed.

2nd up was Bleeding Through. This band I think had the most brutal guitar sound I have ever heard. Unfortunately, this band exemplified what I find all wrong in metal today. Too much of every thing. Too loud, too distorted, screamcore vocals, just a total overdone wall of loud noise. It was just too loud and completely undistinguishable. I'm sure there are people here who might like them but I just don't get it. They did nothing but annoy me. They only cool thing I got out of them was in interesting Comparison guitar used by the lead guitar player.

3rd was Bullet For My Valentine. These guys are the real deal and were absolutely f'ing amazing ! Just plain good hard rockin, no BS metal. This is a band that I think has figured it out. They took old-school Metallica/Megadeth and mixed it with enough new-school to make it cool but no too over the top. They had just the right mix of fairly clean vocals mixed with some growly stuff. They fused the metal/thrash/metalcore genres together perfectly. As much as I really liked the latest Trivium CD for being so old school, I can now see what direction they should have headed. BFMV is it. They have it figured out. While Bleeding Through was way too over the top and trying to be scary heavy badasses, BFMV just walked out on the stage in Pantera and Black Tide t-shirts and just tore it up while acting like cool approachable people. The singer had 2 new custom Jacksons, both neck-thru reverse headstock Rhoads guitars, one shiny bass-boat metallic silver w/ black bevels, one white w/ black bevels. The lead guitar player played a black neck-thru Mustaine ESP V all night. I thought the beginning of the show was cool. No big build up, no fancy orchestra music and smoke/mirrors show. It was like the beginning of one of the 1st 4 Metallica CD's where they slayed you in the first 2 seconds with the heaviest fastest riff that kicked your ass. They walked straight out with no introduction and just immediately hit you over the head with Scream, Aim, Fire and kept kicking your ass for another hour. They were seriously heavy but with really well written melodies, songs that stick in your head.

If you ever get the chance to go see these guys, GO !!!! It looks like they have a few more US dates and then off to Europe and the rest of the world for the next few month, taking Black Tide with them.

One thing I found very strange was the crowd. I was expecting a very diverse crowd as far as age group. I figured there would be the old school metalheads like me as well and more new-school metalcore kids, mostly males. I couldn't have been more wrong. I'm sure I was the oldest person there. The crowd was 90% kids and at least half were little hottie metal chicks. Probably 20% of them already had BFMV T-shirts on when they got there. I couldn't believe the number of hot little girls there for a very heavy metal show.

Another thing I found funny was how metal attire has changed and gone full circle over the past 25 years. I was watching the Get Thrashed DVD the other night and on it they were talking about the standard thrash metal fan uniform which consisted of tight jeans, black t-shirt and white high tops. Today's metal uniform for kids is almost the same, tight jeans, black t-shirt and old-school Converse sneakers. The hair cuts are a bit different but the dress is similar. I found that kind of funny.

Well I'm glad kids are playing guitars these days..but dude, dontcha think you bought into the hype..I do...they're "OK".. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0E6nsE6_e4

Lets see if they around in a year or two. If I listed bands that were better than this at their age..I'd be here all day!

Note to JCF..MTV is not the be all, end all of all things metal..there is much to explore! Anyone who does explore the metal underground KNOWS this band is hardly a blip on the radar. Their hearts in the right place tho..they and have potential.

I gotta give the skill level to Trivum or Shadows fall for MTV's popular metal boy bands.

Keep in mind how young everyone once was and compare them to Black Tide..this includes..well, you figure 'em out...hint, they're all well known!

I think most of hype is due to lack of mainsteam metal for so long. So, anything that remotely "rocks" is a shock to the system to anyone not familair with the scene! Many are making this obvious..which really surprises me. But I will point in those directions...if need be. I'm here to help,..so, please keep this in that perpesective.

That entire bill is a major MTV / label promoted money grabber..cool, but recognise it for what it is. Those bands won't be around for long..trust me. These bands are a watered down tribute to what metal was, and not what it is. Metal is fashionable now..that wasn't supposed to happen..

Now I know how black people must have felt when white people stole their culture...mocking it..slappin' it with their puds!

I'll take this trend over that trend..but it sounds, looks, and smells like a ...

                              TREND!!
