Dude...about a zillion band took Metallica/Megadeth and mixed it with enough new-school to make it cool but no too over the top...for 15 years or so. There's alot of bands in those 15-20 years. You just listed all the ones MTV promotes..that's all youi did.

Hmmm..susbribe to BW & BK and or Terrorizer magazines..you get a sampler cd of all the metal that is covered in those issues. That's as good as any place to start I guess if you REALLy want to discover "No BS Heavy Metal"..and that's No BS!

You also can do some window shopping at the End records or Century media. The End has samples of newly released metal bands of all genres. They also recommend other bands in that same style. CM distro doesn't do that but you can hunt any band down on youtube and get all your require there. Again, I can point you in these directions.

I get alot of PMs aking me about fresh new metal. It hard to keep up and I owe a few PM..But I'd rather keep that discussion open @ my thread so everyone, including myself can benefit..There is a good handfull of people here that know much about the metal scene and they have helped me alot thru the years!

MTV..Headbangers ball. Like then and now..most of the bands they promote the lamest bands in metal, Its fuggin' embarassing! They'll play 2 real metal bands everyone knows. Even my kid knows not to bother with HBB ..he gets turned onto more metal with his new video games..and that's no BS!

VH-1 is the old fart Metal channel..if your want to see Dio, Scorpions, Metallica..and everything HHB used to play..then the're ya go. But everyone already saw that shit..its old. Its cool I guess..but its old.

They fucked up my metal again..that's cool. I think its funny..this is nothing different than "Nu"..and "Rap" metal..it'll pass while the real metal will ensue and stay underground ..where it belongs..where it safe. I used to worship At The Gates once upon a time before "Emo" and and "Core" kids fucked them to death and pissed on their fuggin' corpse. Everyone is just ripping off band like At The Gates..but they killed it with very UNmetal happy sing along choruses ! ATG have been anal raped long before it was cool to do so before 2000 when NWOSD (New wave of swedish death) was already beat to death..now its beyond FUBAR!! Now its the Bay area's turn..how fuggin' wonderful!

Fuck this shit already..but its better than NU or RAP metal I suppose. Kids are playing guitars, bass, and drums again..and making records instead of just scratching them..so...fuggums.

Now Bill, I know you're a true metalhead, nobody is going to deny that. But please understand that "metal" encompasses a lot of different bands doing a lot of different things. We all know you're a serious death/black/super heavy/cookie monster vocals afficianado. If I wanted to know about those kind of bands I would look towards you as the ultimate expert.

You do need to realize that many of us out here listen to metal on completely different levels, all the way from radio friendly stuff like Motely Crue/Guns & Roses/Def Leppard to nu-metal stuff like Korn/Lincoln Park to old-school throwbacks like Trivium/Black Tide/Bullet For My Valentine to the super heavy growly stuff you're the expert of. In fact, I'll bet you're a Bleeding Through fan. You probably would have loved them live on this bill.

You can put down any band that doesn't scream about Satan and death all you want but dude, I really don't care. I'm not into it. Isn't there some kind of "Glam Metal Pussifed" thread out here with a bunch of guys that like bands on the lighter side of metal ?

Do yourself a favor and actually go see Black Tide and Bullet live before giving them your standard brush-off, "they ain't shit" speech. All I'm asking is that you let some of us enjoy other bands you don't care for and have a discussion about it. You don't see me talking shit about a lot of the cookie monster bands you love. I'm just not into it but I respect your right to dig it. All I'm asking here is that you please respect our right to dig bands doing other things very well. If you haven't seen these guys live, you're really not in much of a position to comment with any kind of accuracy. Both bands live shows were very heavy, very guitar oriented, featured Jackson guitars and just killed. Both bands live were much heavier than on their CD's.

And as far as MTV, wouldn't know. I haven't watched it in over 15 years. Does anyone here on the JCF actually watch MTV? Do they even play music anymore?

Guitarzan you are 100% , absolutely wrong!. I know the best of the best of all styles of true metal, including ALL Chrsitian metal. The best singers..guitarists..everything. I hate 99% of most "growlers" out there especially pukes such as Bleeding through...yeesh!

Please, save me the same speeches and debates I heard all before when people embraced NU/Rap metal thing..saying the exact thing your'e saying now. You've been here for a YEAR+ longer than me and it still took you that long to figure that out. Don't tell people what they do and don't like! It won't get you anywhere.

And yes, there is a "light-hearted" metal thread. It's stickied at the top of this sub-forum-type-thing. It was born from a thread I created a long time ago. A music recommendation thread that kinda died so we just use Bill's thread to do all our recommending.

You speak of these bands being "heavier" live. It's all opinion! I think that Therion with their symphonies and opera singers are ridiculously heavy live though you might not.

That brings up another point. Just because we listen to more extreme forms of metal doesn't mean it's all cookie monster stuff. Therion doesn't use any and they're nuts, with the crazy lyrics and all that (Old Therion on the other hand...).

That said, listen to what you want. Just because I hate it doesn't mean it sucks.

My guitar teacher got ther new Warrel CD and it sounds pretty good to me. Though at times I was expecting a crazy Jeff sweepy-thinger to start (You know you listen to too much Nevermore when...) even though it's not all that Nevermore-y to me.

One thing I found very strange was the crowd. I was expecting a very diverse crowd as far as age group. I figured there would be the old school metalheads like me as well and more new-school metalcore kids, mostly males. I couldn't have been more wrong. I'm sure I was the oldest person there. The crowd was 90% kids and at least half were little hottie metal chicks. Probably 20% of them already had BFMV T-shirts on when they got there. I couldn't believe the number of hot little girls there for a very heavy metal show.

That was all I needed to read. Maybe it's time to check out some of these new bands!
