Yeah, cos Skid Row turned out to be great. Seb Bach = household name? Dave "Snake" who-bo?
As much as I love "SLave To the Grind", and Bach's vocals, I'd still rather take a few Nile albums with me to a desert island.

Metal is, and always will be, ultimately about fun. That includes death metal as I showed with the Vader video.
It is about fun...good call. That said, I have to agree with the posturing comment. Saying that it's not means nothing...it's in the eye of the beholder. I say it is, you say its not...who is right? I think when people have their head buried in a particular genre's ass, they're only going to see it they way they want to, which is far from objective. I was guilty of the same thing with hair metal in the late 80's until I woke up one day and realized how silly and pointless the scene had become. I think death metal has become every bit as silly and pointless...its the poseur metal for the new millennium.

I think everyone just needs to listen to whatever the hell music they want...

I'm not a death metal fan, can't stand the usual cookie-monster stuff, but I've been listening to a bit of Death lately, and I must say I like Chuck's vocals more than a lot of the other standard stuff, mainly because he doesn't seem so monotonic in his growling in my ears.

Hang on. You were buried in hair metal? That was around the late eighties? We're talking 20 years ago then. Assuming you were at least 18 then, that makes you almost 40 now. And you're still seeing death metal as posturing? You really haven't learned much about life in all your years then.
Maybe all the young dudes are posturing, but guys like Vader, Morbid Angel, Nile, Obituary etc are as old as you, or even older and they don't take it all that seriously any more.
I don't understand how you missed it all.

The cookie monster vocals are nothing new.

It is a complete rip off from The Whore of Babylon

But no, you'd rather laugh because he's YOUNG? That makes a hell of a lot of sense. It actually says more about YOU than anything else.
I'm 100% certain that kid wasn't trying to be a "badass". But people like you will continue to see things to suit your own little agenda. You thought Poison were shit? Your username is RacerX. Give me a fucking break. I love the "Superheroes" album, and Paul Gilbert is a genius, but RacerX songs are no better than the early Poison ones. Massive guitar solos are just as much about showing off as death metal vocals. You don't seem to understand that.

You have a very fucked up way of looking at music and I'd suggest to you, you really need to grow up. You must have been drunk when you posted that shit (unless you really ARE an 18 year old kid). Either way, hold your head in shame and grow a set of testicles.
If you think death metal is shit, SAY SO, instead of trying to come up with silly anecdotes which just show you to be a total penis.

"Hey everyone, I saw a death metal band today, they were shit, cos the guy singing was YOUNG! Everyone knows bands are shit and gay unless they're over 45. Ha ha, how ridiculous eh?"

                Pfft.
I call him "wimpy" because I already KNEW the dude. He went to the same school as me at the time, and he WAS wimpy. I wouldn't call the Cookie Monster voice as "learning a skill", then again, judging by your lack of maturity, as displayed by your short fuse and choice of words, I'm sure it IS a "skill" in YOUR eyes.
And for the record, dumbass, I chose the name NOT because of the band, but because of the classic 1967 t.v. show.
and, yeah, I'll say it: I think Death IS shit. Big, stupid shit, and that's my opinion. Entitled to it. I came up with "antedotes" merely to not make it so serious, and show the ridiculousness of it all. I stated he was young, merely so you got as much of the image as possible, that wasn'y why I found him funny. And for the record, Corky, I'm 40.

Now, go take a Motrin, and change that tampon you got shoved up there, Susan.

Phil may be a cock but he has some range, and good control of his vocal tone when he wasn't hopped up.
I agree. "Cowboys.." is STILL one of my favorite albums. Anselmo had more dynamics than most of the heavier stuff. He could actually sing when he wanted to (at least back then, he could. Don't really know about now.). Take, for instance, Cemetery Gates. However, I started to lose interest in them, some time after Far Beyond Driven. I thought the music started to change, and not for the better.

Now, for the other end of the vocal spectrum: What do you guys think about helium-singers like King Diamond? Talk amongst yourselves....

I hate the vocal style. Then again I'm not really a fan of death metal music either... the melodic stuff is OK but most of it sounds like shit to me.

I wish I could just ignore it, but at least around here there are no normal metal bands. Everything is either death or (something)core which is why I'm not in a band right now.

Why do people have to bitch and rant about a vocal style in rock music? Just fuck off and don't listen to it.

What I find most common is those who "hate" certain metal styles..are those that let MTV/Media dictate what was good or bad. If I judged "metal" by what's on Headbangers Ball..I'd hate metal too. The same lot that thought "shred was dead" or metal was non-exist from '91 to '03. They didn't evolve or stay in touch with metal at all. Instead they hung onto the only "metal" they know, and embraced any trend fed to them. Then have the ignorance and audacity to call those who stood loyal and supported something most disgaurded.."posers". The same people that purchased the majority of their music collection at best buy or walmart.

So, take it from the source.

                              I have a question I'd love to ask in person...am I a poser?

So, the feeling of warmth and security of the internet will have to do..

Nobody here actually met me really..Ace did twice..ask him.
