Bruce Bouliette(SP) rocked. Had chance to meet him in North Hollywood about 10 years ago. Great guy who I respected for keeping up with Paul Gilbert. Gary Moore? Where has he been? I don't think we can over look Robin Crosby. To me he kind of epitomizes the excess and down fall of a great one. Brad Gillis, loved his style, but what happened to him. I have the Alligator album that he recorded with Gary Moon, but havent heard a peep since. Gary will be out in Boulder rehearsing at my place and recording at my other guitarists studio in a couple weeks. I will have to ask him. While we are on that track, Jeff Watson? Monster player.Custom Guitars, Refinish and restorations.

As for Gillis, I saw Night Ranger at "A Taste of CO" last fall in Denver...they were awesome (they also have a new album coming out soon).
Brad also does alot of studio stuff these days. Any time you hear guitar based background music on ESPN shows, that's him.

I always wondered what happened to Josh Christian (i think that's his name) from a band called Toxic, that dude was the shit!!
I thought for sure back then he would be the next uber shred god.
"Think This" was a kick ass album, not to many peopl knew of them, that i knew anyway..dude was one of the best shredders of the era.

Trem ..I was just listening to World Circus the other day.
In fact, you just reminded me of what ever happened to Andre Corbin of Helstar..another awesome player. Last I heard he quit playing all together and was an accountant."Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"

Now on with the show...
How about...
Amir Derakh - Rough Cutt (Orgy...meh)
Chris DeGarmo - 'Ryche
Just a few "where are they now" types. Some didn't "go off the deep end", but they did totally fade into obscurity.
Actually, I heard an Orgy song in GC about a year back. Opticon, which was weird as it was not one of their more popular ones. I still hear Blue Monday from CandyAss on the radio once in awhile too. I then saw him last summer with his "new" (been around a few years) band Julien-k, and they played great. He was really into the music, plus they had a song in the new Transformers movie. There new CD was supposed to come out last year though in stores, but it has not come out yet sadly. I wouldn't say he's in oblivion, as you can still his work on the radio from time to time, which is more than you can say for most of these guys from the 80's.
As for Chris, I miss him a lot in Queensryche. I always thought he was a better player than Wilton, who does nothing for now. Could have something to do with the material though.

Cool, I was initially worried that this thread would be a pointless slamfest, but this is turning into a nice trip down memory lane. I had totally forgotten about Akira.
I think we could add Oz Fox to this list. I still love to play the Soldiers Under Command riff.
It's nice to see a few Rough Cutt fans. I thought I was the only one left.
To get a bit more obscure, how about Spread Eagle? Or Crimson Glory? Or Black 'n' Blue? Man, I used to wear those guys' tapes out (yup, cassette tapes, I'm old - in fact, I first heard Van Halen I on an 8-track tape - and I wore that one completely out).

Amir's stuff with Orgy doesn't fall into the same world as Rough Cutt - it's nu-metal (bordering on TECHNO ), so that's why I considered it the way I did. While it is certainly relevant, and he's still doing it, it's a far cry from what got me to like him.
I wish Joe Satriani would go back to making some good music ala "The Extremist" or "Flying in a Blue Dream"...
