what didn't you guys like about Ghost Reveries? I thought it was brilliant.
Ghost Reveries had some great moments and some great songs, but less of a "complete album feel" for me (which is something I always loved about Opeth's albums)
The song Atonement doesn't do much for me, Grand Conjuration meanders on for too long.
I did enjoy that album alot when I got it and also listened to nothing else for several days, but after the novelty had worn off I rarely wanted to listen to it. And I often stop after Harlequin Forest or skip right to Isolation Years.
There's nothing bad about that album in my book, I just prefer most other albums.

And so far, Watershed to me feels very complete, there's lots of stuff to explore and nothing I imagine I would skip later on... in fact that album keeps growing on me even more with each listen. Great atmosphere as well.

I'm surprised Dan Swano didn't cultivate and progrees in this style . He always seemed to be along these lines, and in thiese circles and is more than capable..he's just never broke through. like Opeth has..I think he could have..

I've been rediscovering stuff I already have. Metal really hasn't progressed in the last 10-15 years. Opeth progressed, (pun) just as many bands that put out as much as they did. I'm finding favorite stuff that's been in my collection forever and sounds like it could've been released today.

We already have enough metal to last a liftetime and never hear the same song twice. It just keeps coming..that's OK.

BTW..Warrel got a ALOT from Paul Simon.
"Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"
      Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!

Indeed, he did. Not only did Nevermore do The Sound of Silence (Jeff hated that and didn't want to do it, but he had some cool music laying around and they decided to put the lyrics to it and do a much different, heavier arrangement), but Warrel also did a cover of a more obscure song called Patterns on his solo disc.

I dunno. My favorite Opeth still is "Still Life". Don't get me wrong Ghost Reveries and Watershed are killer but nothing comes close to SL, oh and My Arms Your Hearse.

            I wholeheartedly agree.
Still Life actually happens to be my favourite album ever.

But I'm glad they don't try to repeat themselves and instead try new things, and WITHOUT turning to total shit (and there's quite alot of bands I can think of right now that did exactly that). Not even Roadrunner can stop Mikael Akerfeldt from trying new, freaky ideas.
That's why I can still wait for the release of a new album by them with excitement, buy it blind on the day of the release and not be disappointed. Not bad at all considering they just put out their 9th studio album.

I like when he puts his spin on stuff. That dude is awesome..

Still Life is my Opeth release favorite too..but "Demon of the fall" is my favorite Opeth song!!! That's the song that hooked me from the get go..

Still Life was the first opeth to get me into them, I liked blackwater park aswell, but it wasn't until ghost reveries that I got into them again. I absolutely love that album, and watershed is almost as good imo! Opeth is at there best experimental, and if you just gotta succumb to the solo in hours of wealth!

I'll pick up Watershed this weekend! It'll give me an excuse to leave my house. Its going to start getting pretty hot ova-here. I was getting spoiled to this very nice Spring.

Looks like Warrel wins for a few more days..I saw Opeth and Nevermore on a bill before. They should do that again!

                    Later guys.

Damn it G stop teasing , I've been trying to avoid the cd shop the whole week

The fuel lights on in the car too, $1.65/L today here. Currently works out to $5.93us/gal. Yeah. The bad part is I'm cashed up at the moment so I wouldn't care, especially if the packaging is most bodacious
