"Phil Collen isn't fit to even tune Doug Aldrich's guitar (or Reb's either, for that matter), so i'm thinkin' there's not a chance DL is gonna "blow Whitesnake off the stage."

Yessir, that sums things up nicely.

DL forgot how to be a rock band 25 years ago when they became money-hungry pop whores. Kinda like Motley did with Theatre Of Pain.

And, Joe's a fucking asshole to boot, so fuck DL.
I saw Leppard live on the "X" album tour. It was a crap pop album, but live they played half of the High N Dry album and I promise you they hadn't forgotten how to rock. They were fucking brilliant.

I wonder if Def Leppard's Pyromania didn't drop right as MTv was taking off if anyone would care. Sure, I saw them a bunch when I was a teen, it was great panty-droppin' music with the chicks. But I think they had like four or five riffs in their most popular songs that were just slight fingering variations of the same two string chords.

But the Whitesnake '87 album, the topic of much discussion in this thread, was a great guitar album, one of the greatest ever I think when combined with the songs as a whole (excluding the guitar god instrumental albums).

DL was a solid band for a time, at the right time, but from a musician's point of view, I think they were somewhat simplistic. Sykes was a much better listen to me from a technical and musical perspective than Steve and Phil.

I like both Lep and Whitesnake, but I think Hysteria is the most musically interesting album they put out between them. Sure, both bands made heavier albums... but Hysteria is quite unique with some very cool writing.

Whitesnake 87 is a killer album, though... straight-ahead rock and roll!
