Well, I've been feeling the same as you for a few years now. The X and Yeah albums really sickened me. You thought Hysteria was weak and poppy, X and Yeah were ten times worse. No balls or fire whatsoever - and considering they have Vivian Campbell and Phil Collen in the band, the lack of any decent soloing was just a disgrace.

But I like the new album a fair bit so I'm quite pleased with the band again. I'm expecting a good battle between DL and Whitesnake when I see 'em live next month.
But I think Leppard will blow them off the stage.

I never got that either. Chicks LOVED dudes that looked like Coverdale back then. They got more pussy than we've seen in magazines.

I see where you are coming from. My dislike of Lep is more out of disappointment than anything. I LOVE High and Dry, just freakin' LOVE that album. I liked Pyromania somewhat, it's a good album. Not as good as High And Dry, but that's my opinion. Then they changed. Weather it was due to the producer or Willis being fired or whatever, they changed big time between Pyro and Hysteria. I know the drums had something to do with the new sound but I really think it was more due to Lange than anything.

But whatever it was, there was a HUGE change there. It worked for them bigtime. No one can say it didn't. They blew up with that album. Maybe it was the oversaturation of them on Mtv that made us sick of them too. But they were not the same band that recorded High And Dry, that's for sure.

But you have to give it to them for having the balls to really change their sound. They could have fallen flat on their face, so I give them props for that. Still don't like it.

I never liked anything because my friends said it was OK. Never. Don't know where you got that point.

If you read my EDIT you'd know I tried again when I was older to listen to it. Still sucks. So I'm not using anything but my ear to tell me it sucks.

Motley was cool becuase of songs like "Piece Of Your Action" and "Looks That Kill". Not because of the drugs. We didn't have the internet back then, I had no clue what they were doing in their private life. They wrote good songs and had cool videos. That's what made them cool in 1982, not their private life.

Leppard were seen as "gay" because of songs like "Rock Of Ages", "Love Bites", "Women", "Armageddon It", "Rocket", "Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad", "Pour Some Sugar On Me", "Bringing On The Heartbreak Redux", "Lets Get Rocked", "When Love And Hate Collide", "Hysteria", do I need to go on? We based our opinion on the songs above and we thought they were weak. I still do. Sorry, not my thing at all.

I get you love them. Cool. But you put your opinion out there, don't be surprised when someone else has a different opinion and puts it out there too. Ripping on them gets you nowhere, well it makes you look stupid. Don't like my take? That's OK, I don't like yours either.
I totally understand why you don't like them and think they're gay. But yeah, they were the first band I ever REALLY loved, so I'll defend Hysteria to the death, and I just don't get why people don't like "Adrenalize". That album rocks at least as hard as anything Crue ever did. "Tear It Down" and "White Lightning" are brilliant hard rock songs.

It's a difference of culture here - in the UK Leppard were NEVER very big. The Brits hated them for selling out to the USA! So, to us, Leppard weren't really a band for the girls or anything - they were just another rock band to most people. Until, like I say, one discovered Slayer etc.
But Whitesnake were just as gay as Leppard, no one can ever convince me otherwise. In fact - my pals older sister used to have Whitesnake posters ("Come and Get It" was one) on her wall, and we used to laugh at the gay music she was into, while we were listening to "Pyromania".

Silly really. I love old Whitesnake now, much more than I like anything they did recently.
