Although I don't like Metallica anymore, they're one of the reasons I got into playing guitar. My playing certainly has quite a bit of their influence in it.

Can't listen at work, but if it's metalcore riffs without the whiny/screamy vocals then it should be good. The vocals are my only problem with metalcore (besides the name...what does that mean anyway?)

        metal + hardcore

but that's what thrash metal was

so it's modern metal + modern hardcore I guess

I'd just like to see someone put out a high-quality ALBUM. Not a few good tunes and some filler, either. I'm not the kind of listener who downloads 99-cent tracks or has an iPod set to "shuffle" and skips around until I find a song worth hearing. The only "new" Metallica song I would even recognize is "Until It Sleeps" and only then from constant airplay back when Load came out. I'd love to hear something like AJFA that has a consistent vibe from start to finish, without every song sounding like the one before.
And not heavy for the sake of being heavy. Quality musicianship and a vocalist who doesn't sound like a cowboy.

Who needs another Master of Puppets when we can have another St. Anger, produced slightly differently and with SOLOS omg. Hopefully the drums sound like trash cans again, that was so metal it made me vomit blood.

Maybe even get Kirk on vocals. That'd be a win.

But the only way this album can truly stand the test of time... is if it's their last, giving the fanboys no option to turn on it when the latest material has come out with yet another pretentious marketing statement attached to it.

Can't wait to download it, not a chance in hell of paying a dime for it after St. Wanker.

I just can't imagine how they can win on this CD. Trivium puts out and excellent CD that sounds like old-school Metallica and they get ragged on all over the net. If Metallica puts out an old-school Metallica CD, is everyone going to bag on them?

I just can't personally listen to James vocals anymore. If you watch anything live over the past 10-15 years, James trys to sing more like a girl than a rock singer of old.

Still curious to see what they put out but would really like to hear James sing more like on the first 4-5 CD's.

Haven't cared for any Metallica since MOP. Thought Load and Re-load were crap and St. Anger need not be mentioned. The thing that put a stake in Metallica's coffin for me was the movie "Some Kind of Monster". Holy crap it could have been a high school reality show with ugly cheerleaders discussing their feelings. I was on the edge of my seat. Not because of the high drama, but because I was waiting for a pillow fight to break out!!! I think if the original band saw that movie 20 years ago, they would have kicked their own asses!!!

That about sums it up. Also the reason why I'm not excited about the new album.

I have to say, I like some of the Black album, Load/Reload era stuff as well, mostly because I was growing up around that time (yeah I'm young) and that was introduced to me as what Metallica was.

I also like the old stuff. But I think it's safe to say that that's a whole different band.

Both good, imo. Just not the same, and most of the people who want one hate the other.

I will however unite with you all in the hatred for St. Bullshit....

Well said!! Metallica's whole discography is defintely not for a one dimensional metal listner.

I don't think his vocals have been necessarily bad, just often unconvincinly fake with the Lynyrd Skynyrd-isms. I'm Southern, but don't have the accent as I was raised by television. A true Southern accent is a thing of beauty to me. Some dude from California faking a Southern accent is just annoying.
please don't put it into words, 'cause I fear what you're thinking

Ya know, I like about maybe 6 songs total off load and re-load. There's others that can play in the background and I won't get agry about it. I really don't personally think it's the music part that's really made me not interested in metalica, but james' vocals.

But then AJFA is my favorite by them and even that one seems to get a lot of Criticism
In the future though I need to remember to not buy guitars while on Nyquil

No, they were gonna go with "The Sparkle Jumpsuite" but were afraid it would get confused with the DL album.

*sadly I can almost see James in a sparkle jumpsuite singing st. anger at this point.... I need to get out more..*

On most Prog boards I frequent most of the people actually like Load quite a good bit. [Queue Vass and his sociology report]

I'll gladly take another "Load-esque" album over 'Formation Of Damnation' any day.

                                Anyways, onwards.
Testament kicks Metallica's ass any day!

I enjoyed most of the Load album, especially The Outlaw Torn... I could listen to that song all day long! I thought Reload was pretty decent, too. St. Anger isn't the worst album in the world, but that garbage can/reggae drum sound sucks much ass!!!!
