yup,Gary Moore and Jimmy Page are two of my "living" guitar heros whom I have yet to actually see live(well,other than in a vid)
but I cant complain really,I saw the rest of my "living" guitar heros live,some many times

I hear ya Savage. I have run through some of the kids on youtube that can play some of the most incredible and sterile arppegio sequences and when they try to bend a note there is no feel, horrible vibrato, and is usually flat. I'm with ya on that one. Not counting pros and the older, more experienced players of course, there are alot of young "shredders" on youtube that can play all the fast technical stuff and have absolutely zero feel. IMO the best players are the ones that combine technique with trying to make a melodic statement. I know every solo situation is different of course (sometimes the song calls for a balls out technical display), but it just seems like alot fundamentals are lacking in players these days. The guys that started doing the technical neo-classical stuff back in the day (Uli Roth, Blackmore, Rhoads, Malmsteen, Vinnie Moore, Gilbert, Macalpine, etc...) still had those blues roots in them.Originally posted by savage View PostHOLY SHIT!

Gary Moore isn't exactly a neo classical shredder, but he has got amazing chops and such a great feel. His vibrato is great as well. Speaking of vibrato that is another lost art these days. Even when a guy can put on a great technical display, if his vibrato weak and the bends are out of tune, it ruins it for me.Comment

today's players just play notes... older dudes play every note like they mean it
hiding behind tons of gain and modern sterile sounds
lack of dynamic control
the notes don't sing at all
when it comes to soloing on an instrument, what you play doesn't mean nearly as much as how you play
