What I like about the pickup is its clarity. It's not the highest output pickup out there, but it really helps the listener hear what I'm doing. If it's not a CHARVEL then i dont want to play it,look at it or even fuckin THINK about it!

I've had guitars since the mid-80s with almost every type of pickup, but for less than a year I've had a JB in a soloist.
I LIKE IT.
I usually go for the strange and unusual. Thought of the JB as "boring"; "everybody uses it". Now I see why.
I use a DSL100 1/2 stack. The JB seems to take well to this.
I think the people who slam the JB are using Mesa or some other "darker" sounding amp, that the JB doesn't mesh as well with.
My Soloist is probably part of the equation as well. Maple neck-thru, ebony, alder, bright and resonant. Sounds really killer for classic 80's metal that I like to play.

I don't record with my JB-equipped guitars, but I do gig with them. They seem to get a little muddy when palm-muting, which is a problem for me when laying down rhythm tracks. Live, I'll use a wider range of guitars and pickups, as I'm not necessarily so focused on nailing a particular passage "just so" as I would in the studio. I have JBs in three guitars at the moment, all bolt-on Jacksons with basswood bodies.

I bought a duncan distortion after finding out it is the SAME wind as a JB only with a large ceramic magnet in place of the JB's stock alnico 5
the thing roars more than a 81 and is very tight and punchyIf it's not a CHARVEL then i dont want to play it,look at it or even fuckin THINK about it!

Not sure who exactly used those pups myself. I honestly don't care what 'quip a good band/player uses as long as I like it. Like Inazone for example ..his tone in Under Eden is not "brutal" as an Uberschall. It is closer to the gain and /cut of a Marshall JMP-1. I think one of his preamps is an older Peavey..but it sounds great in the context of his music/playing. Much like my favorite Soilwork cd "Chain Heart Machine"...for example.
I have a Duncan JB in my RR1 and it has a much better "edge" to it than my main player which is a Koa SD II w/custom DiMarzio..but that's only with my Uberschall. That amp is very revealing and unforgiving!!! You could actually hear a fresh set of strings go dead within a couple hours with that amp. Not so with amps like my Marshall, 5150's, my kid's Line 6 and ect..which seem pretty happy with any decent stuff you throw at it.
My point is,..alot of various pups will not make a ton of difference with you average amp and ears. Certainly not as much as your playing. Some "Boutique" amps on the other hand will reveal alot of things you'd never considered or actually hear otherwise...which can be a pain in the ass in reality IMO. Do you really want amps that are fussy that require using certain, strings, cables, pups, tubes and ect. To me it's a double edged sword. Yeah it's cool to have a tone that will set you apart from your average set up..but they are fussy and inconsistant at times..much like a fuggin' broad. Broads can be a pain in the ass for the same reason (no offense to my JCF sistas). Yeah, it's nice to have a hottie..but the maintenence and upkeep can be a total pain in the dick sometimes. One day their happy, they next day their not for whatever reason..just like "Hi Fi" Boutiquetries. I have both my cute lil' wife of 21 years and my Uber of 6 years . Yeah, I love 'em but their both spoiled, fussy pains in my ass some days. Especially on the days you're really in the mood to play ..but then sound you hear comin' from them isn't that inspiring at all..and that really sucks the balls. That's when I plug into my Marshall or my kid's cheap spider II and go the fuck off and actually write something on a good day..now that I like!
In my older age I just want to plug in and play..or just plug in and shoot my goo without all the fuggin' bullshit!"Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"
Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!
"Well, your friend would have Bell's Palsy, which is a facial paralysis, not "Balls Pelsy" like we're joking about here." Toejam's attempt at sensitivity.

I like the JB through my mesa, as well as my Digitech.
Also like all sorts of other pickups...
I prefer a menu with many selections, when I dine at the pickup cafe."Wow,... that was some of the hardest rockin ever. Hardest to listen too."
