Yes, I do have Goldy's solos stuff and they do truly suck. I always liked his playing even with Guiffria even tho that sounded like Journey or some shit. I do like his solo spot in the Starz project..
I've only seen Craig one time live and that was the Cleveland show a couple years back. He couldn't pull off most of Viv's stuff so it was either cut or they did a medley which allowed him to escape having to even attempt some of those solos. Extremely disappointing especially considering that Dio's vocals were so good it was unreal! Vocals like that need an axe slinger who can step up. I wish Doug Aldrich was still with him at that point but unfortunately he just left to do the Whitesnake tour along with Reb Beach. Anyway, if Malmsteen opened for them before that must of made Craig poop his pants Who'd want to follow YJM for an opener?

That and guitar hero, like was mentioned. I fucking hate guitar hero.
Well, loving or hating Guitar Hero aside it is a fact that kids get exposed to older music through it for better or worse. And if Dave Grohl is imortant enough to get his own artist inspired or sig or whatever model then so is Guitar Hero because its even more popular than him! Oh wait a minute, Guitar Hero did have tons of stuff at the Winter NAMM show ranging from custom graphic'd play guitars (or whatever they call them) to having infiltrated music stores. It goes by popularity as everyone stated before, right?
BTW, Bengal I'm not picking on you. I'm not really thrilled with that game either, don't even know how to play it

        Rudy,
No worries man. I don't know how to play it either.

Seems to me some good guitarists will never blossom because of this game. You need to watch the South Park episode about it if you have not. It's actually on tonight at 10pm Eastern on Comedy Central.

I'm just saying you can't blindly dismiss Dave Grohl or his music as just a passing fad. He's been around way too long to be considered a fad. Part of his popularity stems from his sweet personality that comes through in just about every interview you see of him. He's that same way in real life. Dude is very down to earth. And very rich.

But to dismiss him overlooks the importance he has had in music in the last 18 years. Love it or hate it.
        I'm angry because you're stupid

Hey Bengal, Yes, yes! I have seen that South Park episode. It was awesome! The way they made it mirror a real band's rise and fall was great. Thanks for the tip about it being on again tonight I might have to re-watch it. You never catch the butterfly you just chase it man
When I speak about Dave Grohl I'm not talking about him personally. He may very well be a super nice guy and down to earth. But musically I have a hard time equating him with some of the people I look up to. Musically only, not personally.

            Rudy,
"Real guitars are for old people", one of the best quotes from that episode.

Grohl is no Vai, but he writes a pretty good song, IMHO.

Grohl's actually far better a guitar player than most people here give him credit for. Foo Fighters have been doing some very cool experimental improvisational-type shit live and on the recent recordings and his playing has been a big part of that. he's an interesting and creative player who I'm always learning something from. to me that says something.
the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives

Wow I just read this whole tread, very interesting and informative. I really got a good laugh when I was that blue inspired by guitar from the guy from the Foo Fighters? What was his name again? I don't think Ronnie needs Viv and maybe Gibson feels the same. I have always felt bad for Viv this is just another example.
                  Just one more guitar!

                    Dave who?

Seriously, there are NO real guitarists that came out of the 90's...

Marty Friedman. Mike Derks. Ty Tabor. Jerry Cantrell. Gary Hoey. Devin Townsend. Dweezil Zappa. Moe Berg. Just off the top of my head.

Maybe some of those extend back into the 80's. Dweezil, most notably.

I like how he's softening his criticisms of Dio. Now, it's just "there was such an age difference between us."

Gibson as a guitar company is just really on the slide. They're not really supportive of their artists, but I just happen to really love playing Les Pauls."

Sounds like Viv wasn't on the artist distribution list for a complimentary Slash model.
You've got to hand it to Guitar World to let that quote see print, given all the
                                advertising Gibson does with them!
