I am actually just digging their material since I "liked" them when they came out, but had enough hair at the time since it had gotten as formulaic as the boy band/ashlee simpson stuff at the time.
Warrant is pretty underrated IMO, as was Black 'n Blue.

People seem to take easy shots at Nirvana as a "straw man argument" to discredit Grunge. The truth is, Nirvana was nothing like Alice in Chains, who was nothing like Soundgarden, who was nothing like Pearl Jam. There was a lot of diversity and creativity coming out Seattle at the time. Try to name four new hair metal bands from the late 80's that broke as much ground! Early 80's, that's a different story.Last edited by Axewielder; 07-06-2008, 10:34 AM._________________________________________________

Doesn't work on me. Maybe some chick in Kentucky but not here.
Axe,
In your grunge reference you forgot Stone Temple Pilots. Who sounded like none of the bands you mentioned. You brought up a good point, the grunge bands had their own personality, even if you didn't like them.I'm angry because you're stupid

So, where's your gold album? Come on man, give it up.
Funny you bring up masks, costumes if you will, and Warrant. What would you call the matched white leather outfits they are wearing here?
Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.
GASP!!!! Matcing outfits? What a bunch of untallented hacks.
Not to mention they look like chicks. Yuck.
And you want to talk about lame? They are all wearing KNEEPADS! HA fuckin' HA HA!
Yep, you've lost all credibility in this arguement. Nice try though.Last edited by Bengal; 07-06-2008, 04:21 PM.I'm angry because you're stupid

First I ever heard of Slipknot was the Mick interview where he's saying that his virtuoso playing wouldn't fit the group and that "7-strings are for fags." So I (illegally) downloaded the first Slipknot record and listened to it. Sounded just like Korn to me. Haven't listened to them since.
Occasionally I'll hear part of a Stone Sour song when I'm accidentally listening to the radio, but I only know it was Stone Sour because the DJ says so. Damned if I can actually remember any of their boring songs. It might even be just one song I've heard.please don't put it into words, 'cause I fear what you're thinking

For the record, Poison's Nothing But a Good Time (maybe just a really close cover) is being used in a commercial for Toyoters. Maybe it's just for this market, who knows. Is there a renewed interest in hair? Probably. Is it going to amount to anything? Too early to say, it really depends on the number of quality bands. I think Airbourne has a bit of a hair metal tinge to them, moreso than AC/DC or Jet ever did/does, but that isn't worth a lot, I know.
Also, fwiw, I would rather pop in Nirvana/Slipknot/Deftones/whatever then most of your throw away hair metal. Music needs another DLR-era Van Halen, who can write solid songs, throw in killer solos, and never really date or become bloated/over indulgent. I always thought AiC came close to that in a way

I still think they are using those songs to sell to 35-45 year olds. I wouldn't say there has been a resurgence in hair metal yet. Black Tide or Airbourne or whomever else have not hit it big yet so it's not really played on mainstream radio like Poison was back in the day.
This thread has me thinking and I think I mentioned something about it before but I'll go into more detail. Where I was from, dudes didn't like hair metal. Period. No and's, if's or buts about it. Hair metal was not something a dude would say they liked. Not only in my circle of friends but with the others too. It was considered way to wussy. It really was. I hated the shit out of it. There were some bands that were acceptable to like. Motley Crue, Dokken and Ratt were about it. The first real big bands besides Quiet Riot. We didn't consider Judas Preist hair metal. We didn't consider Ozzy hair metal because he wasn't at that point. So those bands were cool. But nobody liked Poison, Warrant, Bon Jovi, White Lion, Cinderella, any of those bands.
Chicks liked those bands. There were bands we liked then didn't, Def Leppard comes to mind. They changed their sound to sell albums. Can't blame them but I don't have to like it either.
There really was 2 phases of hair metal. The first phase which consisted of bands like Motley Crue and Ratt and Dokken and Bon Jovi and Def Leppard and Quiet Riot. And there was the second phase. Bands like Poison, Warrant, Winger, Cinderella and White Lion.
It was cool to like bands from the first phase, not really the second. The second were copycats of the first. Bands that record companies scoured the nation for. Looking for that right look. The first made it on balls alone. I think that's a point about hair metal that we have not really touched on. And even though Bon Jovi were really in that first phase, nobody liked them. The guitarist wasn't good enough and Jon looked too much like a chick.
Not that it was gospel everywhere but I think there is a reason Beavis and Butthead wear the AC/DC and Metallica shirts and Stewart (was that his name?) wore the Winger shirt. That show didn't lie.
It wasn't until recently that I went out and bought the Poison greatest hits (used) and some others to see if I missed anything. I really didn't. Bubble gum pop metal is what it sounds like to me. But I still take shit from a buddy for buying the Poison CD. Some things never change.Last edited by Bengal; 07-06-2008, 11:19 PM.I'm angry because you're stupid
