Oh that's so wrong and not true.. It does the Oliva tone better than anything I've ever heard no matter who plays it.
Oh, and it does a not too shabby classic VH too.Last edited by horns666; 07-01-2008, 01:02 PM."Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"

Power amp wise, get something decent like a VHT EL-34 amp.

Yooooooo Minkya!!!!..Broseppi John, how long do we gotta do this fuggin' dance???!! Hey NEWER guys, do a search for "JMP-1" ..and you'll see what I mean. I owned and played just about everyfugginting..baddabing!
Personally, I wouldn't trade my Marshall Rack for the world and 72 18 year old nymphettes with perky tits.. with the assholes of an eight year old!
BTW my other amp is Bogner Uberschall which I also fuggin love. But if my house was on fire and had the moment to save one amp..sorry Ubie, it was nice knowin' ya!

sorry but that's an absolute bullshit!!! Bill wouldn't save neither of the amps... he would be too busy saving his heavy cock wich he has to carry out by holding it with his two hands"There is nothing more fearful than imagination without taste" - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Before using Laneys (used during Streets and Edge of Thorns), Criss actually used a Yamaha bass head with some outboard gear attached to it (including pedals). Kramers were used during the recording of Hall of the Mountain King, but he also used an ESP M-II which he had the gargoyle painted on it and switched to logo to Jackson I believe. Gutter Ballet is when he started using Charvels (when he got his endorsement deal he asked for 20 guitars, same with the Laney deal, 20 full stacks). When they started working on Edge of Thorns he also acquired some Jackson Fusion models both pro series and USAs. Everything on the Charvels and Jacksons were stock (regardless of what you may hear of him using Bartolini pickups).
P.S. I still have one of Criss' Charvel Fusions hanging in my living room!

Great stories of Criss guys!! I heard he was using some goofy gear such as a bass amp..good to shine some light on what..when.
I had a friend that I learned was a true psycho. Believe me, when I have to distance myself from a "psycho"..it had to be bad. Well anywhoo, this nut is pretty versed in martial arts and is natually a pretty irate person. He totally got into it with Jon Oliva at a show here in Cleveland. I wasn't there but John was but not at the time of the incident. It all started when Criss disclosed that Jon used to torment him all his life, The pool/drowning shit was mentioned . Allegedely it was so bad that he was depressed and became an addict..this is what I was told. So with that, this dude confronted Jon O and told him he was going to gouge out his fuggin' eye..Security came between them but the barrage of insults and accusations ensued. This was confirmed by many people that I knew witnessed what happened..that was pretty fucked up. I'm Kinda bummed I missed that one. Criss was his hero..he even says that on his martial arts site..
Well anyway Clevo-John was already into Savatge well before I had my Marshall rack. He was using his Marshall 900 and 5150, and I was using two 2210's and a 5150 at that time. Were were both mutually in pusuit of that tone at the time John discovered the Marshall rack set up in '96. It was the best amp thus far that delivered that tone. I immediately bought that very rig w/the 5881 version of the 9200. John and two other friends bought the same rigs BUT with EL34s. Theirs didn't sound the same at all. John had probs with his JMP-1 from day one..it never sounded right to me/or him. With the money he invested and probs that he had ..that just left a very bad taste in his mouth, and for good reason. My other bud still has his rack set up after 12 years and never had a prob with it like me. Yes, I never did play out with it but it has never failed me in the 12 years that I've played it. In my circle of friends with this set up EL34 don't sound as good with the JMP-1. Even My VH trib guitarist sounded great with his Peavey 120/120 w/ 6L6s. Then he switch that poweramp to a valvestae because he was sick of lugging it around and that really sucked ass! Yes, John always did Savatge very well o matter what gear he used, just as well as my guy did Van Halen...its what they loved to do, so naturally it conveyed very well.
I wish I could post a vid/demo of this set up..I know you guys would love it. I play my very best with it!"Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"
