I had an opportunity to listen to the leaked version. Apart from one or two songs being pretty cool, it left me totally unimpressed and cold. Talk about an anti-climax...

Oh Fuck me..I got 35 seconds into when my balls were in my socks! I fuggin' hate him..I love him..but I hate him..he makes me sound like such a fuggin' chump!

Bibz, Shred had a new King 13 years ago..we are just getting to really know him now..finally. I told him this was ALL about Korn/Limp Cock/Rage against the cock...when everyone went wiggy wiggy wiggy all the way home.

    Wow..just fuggin' wow.

Yeah SG I went "wow" when I first heard MS..he was amazing. He plays with three fingers y'know. So he's still a bit of inspiration. Well, because my pinky is dead...its a dead pinky..it no longer works...fuck the pinky!

    Sounds freaking great!
Been trying to get into Nevermore, but the singer is hard to get completely into.

    This stuff rocks though!

    sounds fugging great!!!!!!
I can't wait to get my hands on this.
I wonder if anyone will tab this stuff it out (cause you know every one will want it ) I know I will.
7 string shred Andy James Cd was good too, but not heavy like this is.
Maybe people will actually stop asking me to play them some Korn
when I take my 7's out

Not gonna say anything but this; Potentially the only dissapointment is that this album ends, but then you get to start all over again so it cancels it out. Shred has a new king

Bill, I believe this is the second time in recent memory that you forgot to mention Schenker. You sir, are on probation!

I don't really like Nevermore's songs (too heavy for my tastes), but this guy is probably the best "new" lead player around. The Jason Becker comparisons are pretty spot-on IMO.

I think the cacophany remake speaks volumes about what the loom likes, how he plays, and how he's respected.

I'm currently getting into Becker, its amazing how similar I find some of his phrasing comparing it to my own, but the guys an incredible monster! So much of perpetual burn is played at about where I can play fast comfortably, its the learning of it thats taking time. That and how clean he can play fast and how much emotion is put into it. Dime still tops that chart for me (bends in 10's lead for e.g.).

As for Loomis, his unweildly shred locked me into neoclassical/progressive shred. I learned to sweep pick properly because of him!

I've never anticipated an album like this one. Ever. (for some reason when I was a teen pantera albums flew under the radar and into my face on release!)

    Yep,

He stands apart from the thousands of metal players in all these years to me. His writing, tone, feel and fire is untouchable IMO. He writes/plays for the song..all without applying music theory. Until I heard Jeff it was ALL done before. He is by far the most "original" player I've heard since the mid 90's. No other guitarist spoke to me since Ed, other than Uli Roth. I knew about anyone and everyone as they came along..and I love 'em all..Frank Marino, Sykes, Paul Gilbert, Vinnie-Gary Moore, George - Steve Lynch, Nuno, Greg Howe, Ritchie Kotzen, Blues Saraceno, Tony Mac, Jason Becker, Satch, Vai, Criss Oliva, Marty Friedman, RR, YJM, James Byrd, John Norum, Roy Z, Jeff Waters, Andy LaRoque, Chris Broderick, Tim Cavert, Andre Corbin, James Murphy, Alex Masi, Magnus Karlsson, Akari Takasaki, Warren D, Reb Beach, Michael Batio, Buckethead..yada yada yadda..I compiled that list years ago on my old thread..the shreddus continuumus!!!

In Metal, besides Dime / Time Calvert..Jeff was the true bridge from old school to the new breed of shredding for me. NOBODY has opened doors like that since King Edward. Not in playing, writing or tone!

There's more to Jeff Loomis than you think..he may reveal some of that on his upcoming solo cd. He did a Cacophony remake with Marty Freidman..Marty knows who's worthy to even attempt that!
