I never liked Pantera except for the song Cemetary Gates and some of their earlier more power metal stuff.

But I don't like anything just because it's "the heaviest fucking metal" or because of "sick breakdowns" or "brutal riffs"

No offence but I really never have really liked Pantera. It's just not my thing. But then again, I like stuff that lots of people would absolutely hate. That's what having your own opinion is all about. Or as I say "Whatever floats your boat.".

Guys ..you gotta remember someone not liking your favorite bands isn't a personal attack on you. You can't expect people to like everything you do and visa versa. I hate alot stuff that people think sounds great..but I love you silly fucks.

Try to keep that in mind...its hard to sometimes. Keep things in perspective. People have their opinions. Its kinda good if you think about. I think too many bands sound the same in all styles. Could you imagine if we all liked the same exact stuff..everyone striving to sound similiar. I lost interest in writing and putting together my own stuff lately because it sounds so damn similiar to stuff constantly coming out. Just when you think of an original idea..someone else already has or will.

My pet peeve is with popular cookie cutter trends that will always come and go. It kinda drives me nuts when people buy into the flavor of the week, month or year. Something I can't convey or explain until the trend actually dies..which only becomes blatantly obvious in hindsight...even if its just a few years. Example, what was NU is now OLD and dead..

Remeber ALL metal lyrics can be perceived as "silly" be it Dragons, Swords, Satan, Zombies, Vampires, Vikings, Knights, Doom, Gloom, Sex, Drugs and yada yada..it's all about escape and fun. You will like whatever you relate to..that's the beauty of it.

Its nothing different than a movie..or a book.

People love movies like Star Wars or Lord of the Rings..I HATE those movies. I'd much rather watch shit like Dumb and Dumber, the 40 year old virgin or Orgazmo..stupid shit.

Even if it were instrumental, I wouldn't listen to Necrophagist. Minor major arpeggio sweepage is kryptonite to my brain's idea of fun. That kind of crap is the reason Blotted Science exists! I love those guys and Behold.. the Arctopus (drummer's other band).
PUNKCAST#867-02-04 Behold... The Arctopus performing live at Knitting Factory NYC on Oct 23 2005.More info: http://punkcast.com/867

You're either tired of the same old arpeggio drills or you're not.
Necrophagist isn't extreme enough, but I guess it works for them. Reminds me of a show I saw where some guy in the audience was heckling a similar lead player, shouting... "So What?"

Shawn Lane was amazing. He floored me back around '82 or so when Mike Varney's first "unsung heroes" came out..he had a solo thing on there called "Haunted house" He had a Holdworth/Gambale thing going but a style and fire all his own.. Cool Hendrix cover not unlike Uli Jon Roth and Frank Marino was more than a decade before that. As amazing as they are..they don't write metal stuff. I'm not a big fan of Rusty Cooley, yeah he's really good but I'm not impressed with his writing either solo or Outworld.

For me, the king of rock guitar is Eddie Van Halen. The king of articulate neo classical fused rock is Uli Jon Roth. The king of metal guitar is Jeff Loomis. Its not what they play but how they play it!

A friend always said I sounded like him. Even before I really knew who he was. Then I heard his favorite player is Eddie. Eddie + Death metal..it kinda makes sense I guess.

Well I thought it blew goat ass.Thin tone and no emotion in the lead. The vocal don't even rate an answer.
What kills me is the dumb shit names these death metal band come up with.Don't get me started on the shitty art work where you can't even read the bands dumbass name.
I saw one CD that looked like the bands name was "blood filled goat fuckers".
                            Really? well screw Mark Twain.

Not meaning to beat a dead horse, but I think I have a solution. All these cookie monster bands need to get together and record one album. Then they could pass the recording from band to band only having to change the title and artwork.
