Ah, but fuck it, pointless to argue music, oh, and Winger Sucks Balls.
*** Yeah, but when 90% of the replies are not agreeing with you...
Yep.. Majority rules! See this is why Maria Carey is on top of the
      music biz... uh..wait a minute...wrong example !! For me, i just like
the overall vibe to move my little nut sack! The Necromanical whatever
it was, was thin... generic..and YJM inspired neoclassical wanking imo...
Nothing grabbed me by the little hairs! Like say Pantera, or Black
label society stuff does? You actually prefer this, over "Walk" by Pantera? Uh..ok

Well here are a couple observations, you can or can't relate them with the subject, I don't care!

1-If you use only minor-major scales and don't leave 1 scale while soloing , most probably you are just an ordinary guy who plays guitar and can't write good stuff

2-If you are really a good player, the stuff you write is more likely to be called wanking, boring, show-off, fretboard karate. If you'd sucked at guitar you would be remembered as a better writer but then again your intonation is not great

3- People tend to claim that the music they like is the best and cannot be replaced by some other kind better than that at any level

4 - If somebody doesn't like you, you SUCK!

5- If we all listed our fav. vocalists/singers here, I'm sure I could find lots of people who lived in the 60s and that will call any and all of our fav. singers the cookie monster! Except Endrik, I'm sure he has a couple favorites that are extra ordinarily good on all levels and kinds of music, not bound by time and space and has great intonation.

6- Finally, Muhammed doesn't drink water!

Honestly, Endrik summed it up pretty well:

My son thinks these guys are amazing and was constantly trying to get me to listen to their stuff. I finally agreed that I would listen to the solos since he thought that this Muhammad guy was so amazing. The first thing that hit me was the stiffness and gymnastic-like, "look what I can do" nature of the solos. The guy has some chops but really doesn't say anything with them.

So I explained to my son that this guy was simply taking the same basic major and minor sweep arpeggios and beating the listener over the head with them, "like this...", and I proceeded to play a barrage of them. Instead of him getting the fact that there is no substance to soloing like that, he now thinks I'm better than he ever knew and can't understand why I don't play like that live Ultimately I guess it's "to each his own" but I simply don't get the appeal of music like this...all flash and shock affect, no substance.
Now that is funny! Your son would probably be bored to tears over
hearing Gary Moore play "The Loner" !

This just kicks ass too... and yet it's done with some songwriting and
arrangement skills... just the right amount of "Cookie"...done sparingly,
            ala Killswitch!

I actually learned/played that last night. I never learn other people's stuff..but always I like the pharsing and figured I could barrow some of that for a solo.

                Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!

Rob..there would be no KSE if it wern't for bands like Soilwork. Check out "Sworn to the great divide"...I think you'll like it.

I really don't care for KSE, they're ok..kinda like an "americanized" attempt at The Swedish wave..such as Soilwork, In Flames, Darkane, Blind Colony and ect..actually they frequently admit that..which is cool!

I'm in the group that digs Necrophagist's riffing, but can't stand the sweep arpeggios just randomly thrown in everywhere. Am I the only one sick of this new trend?
Seems like a ton of new "extreme" metal bands just throw in sweeps for the sake of showing that they can play them. I think it's this youtube generation of guitarists. Everyone loves to show off how they can play sweeps and how fast they can speed pick. There really aren't any modern guitarists I can think of where you can identify them just hearing a bar or two of their lead playing. Complete neglect for the important identifying things like tone, phrasing, and vibrato.
The only death metal guitarists I can think of that have a unique and quickly noticable style are Trey Azagthoth, James Murphy, and maybe the Ammott brothers and Ralph Santolla.

I read the first post, and I didn't even bother to click the link.

I'm going to come right out and say I think Necrofagist are a godamn BORE, snoooooooze fest! Holy shit!

I'm sorry Detah Metal has 4 real bands Morbid Angel, Death, Carcass, Cannibal Corpse

everything else is just a copy!, and I'll take the above mentioned bands ANY day over pretty much ANY new band.

I'm sorry I just don't think these guys have what it takes to be anywhere near those 4 mentioned bands.

And to say that mohammmmmed is better than Loomis? WTF? are you smokin rock kid? so he sat with a rusty nail cooley dvd and learned how to sweep pick??@!?! Fuck avenged sevenfold can do that, and they are fuckin homos!

Actually yeah, but i never really "liked" Pantera to be fair, i did like that album, an i liked Primal Concrete Sledge off the first, but meh.. but for some reason on a whole, i could never get into that band Cowboys from Hell, i thought that was cheeze dick, i liked Dimes Riffage, but his leads really did nothing for me, and as a whole, i never listened to that band much, not really a big fan...

Black Label Society, i think i heard on the radio once, did nothing for me.....But i do enjoy me some neoclassical wanking

Cowboys From Hell wasn't their first album. It was their first major label album, but they had 4 independent albums before that.

I'm going to be honest here, as this transcends opinion, but I really don't know how you can't like Pantera, I mean YES I am 10000000% biased, but, to tell me you'd tak neoclassical self indulgant shred over probably some of the heaviest fucking metal ever made I'll never understand, but I guess that's why we are all individual and all are allowed to have our own opinions, regardless of how wrong they are hahahahaha

Sorry, for a GUITAR player to not like Dime's lead's is beyond my scope of comprehension, I can understand not liking phil, or the small amount of cheese on Cowboys, I getcha, but........ahh, I won't go any further I'm gettin all worked up.
