  • Livign Colour Live at the World Cafe..

Really good stuff. Picked it up off of bestbuy.com for fun and man was I floored. A few commentaries:

    1. Vernon Reid has still got it . Whoever mixed this really liked guitar as his tone was right up front in the mix. Absolutely solid tone. Looked like he was piloting the U.S.S. Enterprise by the setup all around him but it sounded good.

    2. Nice to see he still uses his same Hamers from back in the day. He didn't pull out his ESP but hey I can't complain. Really nice to see an artist stick with his tried and true axes instead of hopping on board the flavor of the month.

    3. Corey Glover's voice is still as strong as ever. Usually in an older group the lead vocals are the first to go. But not here. Really strong vocal from him.

    4. Calhoun and Wimbish were rock solid. The bass was slightly buried in the mix but it wasn't too bad.

So in summary, if you were a fan and weren't sure about picking this one up, don't hesitate. It's really good.

thanks for the review, Bryan. I've been aware of it for some time, but have hesitated to get it since it can't be found locally. Might just have to bite the bullet and buy it online....

When it first came out, it was Region 1 only, so buying online wasn't an option before since I couldn't watch it anyway. I've found out that an all region version is available now. Cool!

Anybody got an idea about what amp head Reid was using in this? It kind of looks like a Hughes and Kettner, but I'm not sure.

I actually saw Living Colour this past Friday here on Long Island. They played with Extreme and King's X (Awesome show, BTW). Anyway, I couldn't see Vernon's floor setup, but he was playing through 2 Dual (or Triple) Rectifiers. His tone was great when you could hear him. I don't think they got a good mix until about 2/3's of the way through their set. I was amazed at the CLEAN tones he got w/ the Rectifiers, as they are notorious for a somewhat lame clean sound. "Love Rears It's Ugly Head" was a highlight...The whole band was ON!!! Doug and Will were rock f'n solid. Corey is still in good voice... My only complaint is that they only played for about an hour. Too bad they're not doing the rest of the tour with the other bands. I would love to see them back in the spotlight again...
