  • Got to See Les Paul

Yeah, the real Lester! There have been posts here way back and I was in NJ Monday with my brother, so I called up the Iriduim Jazz Club and asked about tickets! Yes......I am in! We went to the 8PM show! Like everyone who has seen him before it was really worth it despite the fact we had to fight through the Billon teenie bopper girls going to see the Jonas Brothers at the Garden!:ROTF: We ended up riding the train back to Jersey amidst many worn out Mom's and screaming girls.
Les only plays with 2 fingers these days on his left hand. The arthritis is really getting to him. But, heck, he's 96 years old and still cranking! If you can get the chance soon to see him perform, go sooner than later. It was a dream come true for me to see the Man! I didn't see what amp he was playing through, but he had a Boss BCB-6 pedal board full of pedals and playing the LP Recording guitar!

His guest was Muriel Anderson, and awesome player in her own right! I didn't get any autographs since he only signs stuff after the 10PM show.

    Just awesome!

He's the real deal, no doubt about it. A genius inventor (multi-track recording exists today courtesy of Les Paul's mind) and a very fine guitar player. This is a little off thread, but, as you mention, he's 94, and it reminded me again of the passing over the last years of some real musical giants in Les Paul's league, guys like Tom Dowd, Jerry Wexler (who just went yesterday)...these guys played an integral part in some of the truly great music of the 20th, or any, century, and pretty much made it up as they went along. Hats off!

That's awesome! I'm actually moving to NYC after Labor day. I'd like to try to see him this fall. Thanks for posting this! I know once I do go I'm gonna feel guilty that I sold my LP!
