  • Rascal Flatts

My wife is a big country western fan and she dragged me to a Taylor Swift/Rascal Flatts concert. Here is my review...

I don't know anything about these bands other than they have a few songs on the radio that I have heard.

I won't get into Talyor Swift. To me.. she is the country version of Hanna Montana

    Now.. on to Rascal Flats.

The singer is amazing. Probably has one of the best voices I have ever heard and a range that was crazy. He sounded absolutely fantastic. Amazing actually.

The bass player also has an amazing voice, he plays a mean set of keyboards too. His voice is good enough to he a lead singer.

The guitar player had incredible crystal clear guitar tone to die for. He played at least 5 or 6 different guitars ranging from Les Pauls to SG's to strats. Again.. he has an amazing voice and can easily be the lead singer. His riffs were all quality and his solo's were very good. He had great sound.
The stage show was outstanding. Tons of pyrotechnics, lazers, hid-def screens, chicks dancing on scaffolding behind the screens, didn't look like a country western stage to me. They played non stop and were very tight.
The thing that really impressed me is the clarity of the live mix. It was loud.. but it was extremely clear. You could hear every instrument and there wasn't a ton of sub-woofered bottom end (that in my opinion kills many of the metal bands live sound that I have been to lately).

lastly.... the girls. Never.. in all the years that I have been going to concerts did I EVER see so many hot chicks at one concert. There was easily double as many as the best Def leapard concert I have ever been to.

In a nutshell... Rascal Flatts is an extremely good band with extremely good live sound. They are also all outstanding musicians..

    FLAME ON!!!

No flame from me my friend! I'm not a big country music fan, but I have several friends in the biz. Those artists know good sound and they hire the best in the business to make them sound spectacular.

Speaking of "getting flamed," I'm probably going to get torched. I see thread after thread on these forums talking about how great "so and so" is and that they have tone to die for. I click on the link and it's the most horrible mush I've ever heard. It makes me wonder if the majority of the JCF membership is fucking tone deaf or that they just don't know any better.

John, thanks for the review! Sorry for the rant.

I'm glad you posted that review, those guys are kick ass in my opinion. I've seen a few country acts since living in the carolinas, and there's a ton of talent in country music. Rascal Flats is great, and you are right, they are all talented beyond belief. Great review!!

I dig a lot of country, not necessarily RF, but I know what they can do.

Paisley and Urban are some of the modern era country guitar wizards.

Sorry, that's the only word I remember from John's review.

The new country is where talented rock musicians go when they turn 30 and still aren't signed yet. Country doesn't have the same age limit, though it too is focusing more on young and pretty artists than it used to.

The modern country is more palatable than the old "Your cheating heart" type stuff to me. I know country purists feel the opposite, but hey, I miss 80s metal and I've had to deal, so they can deal too. The new stuff has better production values to my taste and much more rock influence, which means I can listen to it more easily.

And the country singer chicks are hot!

Abso-freakin'-lutely! I've been saying that same thing for several years now. I'm not a huge RF fan, the singer sounds a little too "Boy Bandish" for my taste, but they have my respect because they do have the sound, chops and above all, songs to captivate the hearts of country and rock fans alike.

I''ve always believed that todays country is just yesterdays rock music modern technology. 25 years ago, the new eagles album would have been permeating rock radio. It's playing on country radio now instead. Van Zant is basically doing what they've always done in 38 special and Lynyrd Skynyrd to a different audience.

And the women!!! OMG!! Miranda Lambert is HOT HOT HOT!! and just as much Rock as she is country. My all time dream is to be stranded with her and Gretchen Wilson on a..... well.. I don't care where....

I can't stand country music. I break it down and analyse the simplicity of most of it. Drives my fiance nuts. She loves the country. I had to take her to Tim McGraw/Faith Hill a couple of years ago. It was quite painful for me to sit through.

My friend ended up at that same concert in Conn. All he could talk about was the vast number of hot chicks. Country really isnt what it used to be and I dont mean that in a bad way.
