  • Any site to have a guide to get a similar tone of a specific player...

Is ther a site that gives you a guide on how to achive the tone of many players? Maybe something not as uber precise on how to get the brown sound, but something like how to get a good Zeppelin tone, Lynaryrd tone, Rush tone, etc... the list goes on and on.

The reason is that I just bought a Tonelab LE but I don't have that much experience with effects and preamp settings because for the last 10 years I've just played straight to my amp. I'm learning stuff along the way, but I think that if I get something that tells me use: this much gain, treble, mid, bass, presence, ... it will help me understand all. And make me more happy too .

    Just a thought here...

If you played through Billy Gibbons' rig, would you be surprised if it didn't sound like him, and conversely, if he played through your rig, even if it was a high gain Mesa for instance, would it surprise you if he still sounded like Rev G?

Use your ears to find a sound, but your fingers are where the tone lies. I can play through George Lynch's rig with HIS guitars and HIS amps, but it'll still sound like me.

Well... I know that, but there should be some general guides that must of you use to get this tones. Thats what I'm talking about. I know the story of Ted Nudget and Eddie VH... and I know that thats just how it is, but there are some things to take in consideration to get a tone close to one that you look for.

Gotcha. I'll second Guitar Geek then. Gives you the basic setup, but I can't remember if it does anything with settings. I'd think there would be a Tonelab site like Line 6 has for all their users.
