They have a huge future in country music when their huge present in radio rock starts to wane - I think Mutt sees this too.

I won't listen to them for more than a minute, but I have to give them credit for the formula. It's the best of the worst in my book!

How could they have high quality song writing skills when they write radio friendly pop rock songs? It's a pop song, it has the same structure as ALL pop songs.

intro / verse / chorus / verse / chorus / bridge / chorus / chorus again (more dramatic, or one octave higher if you're Bon Jovi) / outro

wow that's a pretty narrow minded view... btw. how do you know it since (I assume) you don't listen to that kind of music?

That's just the order that most pop songs go in. It's a simple, common arrangement.

first of all, there are a lot of pop songs that don't follow that formula
there's one arrangement element which is a lot more important to change the mood/vibe/course/whatever within the song... it's called dynamics

that being said, following the common formula doesn't mean the songs isn't good... what matters is that the song has a strong hook and is memorable... and it's pretty hard to write something like that... every professional musician I've heard talking about this subject has said that writing a good hit tune that all the people would like is the hardest thing to do... by far. You can write jazz chord progressions over 17/8 beat but that doesn't make it high quality song writing... no one cares about it unless it has a strong hook.

Well...the 1st single has been released and it is clearly pure Mutt Lange...you can't deny the hook and production...I just wish he applied his touch to Leppard and not Crappleback.

Good quote. Presumably you did exactly that with Def Leppard. Their new album is about as heavy as Nickelback, so why have a pop at them on that score????

I don't like the new Nickelback song, but my 11 month old daughter does, she dances any time it comes on. Music is meant to be enjoyed - even if it's a baby loving it, it's still cool.

I have their "Silver Side Up" album and it's a solid rock record, I like it a fair bit. Not my favourite band, but they're miles better than anything else I hear on the radio in the UK. At least they play distorted guitars.

As for Mutt not being on any Def Leppard albums recently - he's pals with Phil Collen and collaborates with him, probably more than we realise. He certainly contributed to "Euphoria", and probably even more than that. Besides, the new Def Leppard album is a fucking blast - about 70% of the songs are great and the filler isn't half as bad as their other recent stuff.

Don't worry about Mutt Lange - get the new Krisiun album!

What I think is funny is how you like Nickelback but think Def Leppard have no balls.
You being such an adult and all? Presumably you don't like anything other than death metal (and Nickelback)?

No... In fact I didn't even know Def Leppards new album was out until recently when I saw that video with Tim McGraw I haven't heard it yet, but they've already dissapointed me with the last two CDs, I'm not in a big hurry to be dissapointed again. I will listen, but I'm not going to break my neck to go out and buy it.

Did you notice the WE in my statement? I never said I was any different, in fact, if you read closely, I said later that I was NOT. Actually,I believe I said they had LOST their balls. If you're going to try to bust my chops, at least try to get it right. And, no, I'm not a death metal fan at all. And if Def Leppard have grown a set with this last record, good for them! It's about time! Maybe Joe Elliot finally stopped wasting time running his mouth and sparring with other hair band singers in the media and took time to actually do something.. That's great. But I will tell you that I bought the last two releases def leppard put out and it was bad, but I at least DID listen to them and not just what was on the radio (as if any of the chamber misic on X would have even made it that far) I liked Def Leppard in the 80s. High and Dry was one of my favorite albums, But I haven't liked anything they've done in awhile

My point was that two many people judge a band by what they hear on the radio.

I don't hate on nickleback but I also don't care for them. And the lead singer tries to pretend to be James Hetfield which is lame.
