There's tons of players better than both..and?"Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"
Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!
"Well, your friend would have Bell's Palsy, which is a facial paralysis, not "Balls Pelsy" like we're joking about here." Toejam's attempt at sensitivity.

Plus I think some bands just add up to more than the sum of their parts. There are definitely better players than Wilton and DeGarmo. But how many of those better players will ever put out something like Operation Mindcrime?

Gotta agree there. I only picked this album up last week. I'd known about it for years but only lately had I heard anything off it. Needless to say I was freekin impressed.
A definite classic.
What other albums are worth picking up?

Chris was one of the best and most interesting musicians/songwriters in heavy metal music... he had a lot more to say than most of his peers... but bad fit for Def Leppard in my opinion.
Paul Gilbert has said that he would want to play with DF more than with any other band... don't know how he'd fit though."There is nothing more fearful than imagination without taste" - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

You must get Rage for Order....Walk in the Shadows, I Dream in Infrared, etc., holy smokes there's some good stuff on there.
The EP with Queen of the Reich (Did that tune blow away almost anything made in 1983?) and The Warning are must haves as well if you want the band's great stuff from the era when they were like an underground band.
Mindcrime is epic obviously, it could be the band's greatest hits album almost by itself. The guitar arrangements were phenomenal. Like someone said it wasn't necessarily mind boggling stuff but they really captured the moment and feel for each of the songs as the story went along on the album. Beyond the MTV and radio hits......Suite Sister Mary......wow. The concerts where they played that album start to finish were so cool.
Empire had great stuff but was obviously moving in a new direction.
Promised Land had some good listenable stuff here and there, but beyond that album I generally stay away.Last edited by Larz; 10-10-2008, 08:12 AM.Jackson KV2

And this has been posted many times but it's always cool for another look. I've always like DeGarmo and Wilton and thought their ESPs were very cool. Wilton had a white neck thru and DeGarmo had a trio of white bolt on's with the Tri Ryche graphic. So I decided to combine the 2 with my preference for a soloist with MOP inlays. I bought a used soloist, shipped it to GMW and let Lee and Dan work their magic. Here's what I got back. Killer guitar!

Yep still going strong. I saw them on the last tour where they played both the mindcrime albums, plus a few from the empire at the end. No Queen of the Reich though, which disappointed me a bit. The second mindcrime album is a bit weak in my opinion, but it was nice to see them do the original live, even if they are all a bit older and fatter.Fwopping, you know you want to!

Awesome album. I saw them on that tour (opened for AC/DC), and many others after that.
