  • So I had dinner with Jennifer Batten a couple times this past weekend!

A close friend of mine has come to being friends with Jennifer over the years and arranged for her to come to the Raleigh Music Academy this past Sunday for a master class and live show.

She arrived in town on Saturday and Mike made dinner arrangements in a private room at a nice Italian restaurant. There were about fifteen of us there including spouses and kids.

She was unbelievably cool. Extremely down to earth. She had some great stories from the road.

My kids were very impressed that we were having dinner with a rock star of this magnitude

On Sunday I showed up before the master class to help setup. Of course I timed it perfectly so I got there after the heavy stuff was already loaded in So basically I got to hang around with her a bit before the master class.

The master class was cool. She played through some of work and then disected the techniques for us as well as going through the way she got some of the sounds. She's got a great sense of how to use effects in some pretty novel ways. She spent some time explaining her approach to soloing and most importantly she had some cool ways to "dress up" your phrasing.

Then we went to dinner again - it was just six of us this time. Great conversation and good food - what else is there?

Then back to RMA for the show. She kicked ass. Seriously. She performed a number of her songs backed by her laptop which was playing some very cool synchronized video.

It is hard to describe how amazing it was to see a show this cool by a player of her caliber in such an intimate setting.

If you have the opportunity to see her play - go. Don't hesitate.

BTW, if you are in the DC/VA/MD area she is playing this show at a private function this Sunday in Alexandria, VA. Contact me if you are interested in attending.
I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

She's very nice. Saw her at a Zoom clinic at Lentines music back around '90. As she was signing autographs she kept rubber necking to see the maniac playing bass..that was me. We had a great conversation. I have a signed glossy of her with a very flattering comment. Man, her hair was teased to the moon then...but she was playing for Michael Jackson at the time. I wonder if she remembers that..I'd play bass for her in a heartbeat!

        She's an incredible player!!!

Man that cool Tim... I was lucky to see her in Phx around 90' also,
with the teased hair and all.. Sat in the front row (clinic) and watched
the most incredible display of Hammering/pull offs ive ever seen!
And ive seen EVH 3 times.. One of the funny memories of that night,
was she kept stopping, and looking out into the audience and would ask..
"Wheres Lynch?" "I want to cut heads with that boy"!! Calling him
out! Luckily George didnt show that night, because she would have
                kicked his ass!
I need to have GMW make me this "Tut" !!

Saw her with Jeff Beck a few years ago. She's an amazing musician--pretty much handled the entire arrangement single-handedly, allowing Jeff to play his lines without worry. And she could certainly hold her own with Beck when it came to soloing, no problem.

I personally do not care how it was built as long as it is a good playing/sounding instrument.
