I had doubts about this dude's limp wristed style, but he does a decent job. WAIT for the bridge and outro..Louis Johnson plays with much more power/energy!! yeah, Louis played with enormous power, specially when slapping... his right hand was all over the place... hence the name "thunderthumbs"
and he was fast as fuck and without any double-thumbing stuff... he was all old-school

I hate most of those music school bassists these days... they know all the fanzy shit but their playing is so pussified... no energy and punch at all... all the greats went absolutely nuts on their instruments... that's how they got the TONE

and yeah... he is missing plenty of notes in the outro part... in every pause he has there's at least 2 muted notes.... you don't even have to hear those... everyone who plays or listens to a lot of funk bass instinctively knows that those notes should be there
but I think that's why some folks don't understand how hard is to play funk... there's so much crazy muting going on which they don't notice.

that being said that dude did a decent job... his timing was on but black dudes have a different note placement rhythm wise compared to the white guys... only milliseconds of difference.... but that's where the difference of feel comes from
he should play with more power and get the feel down

I agree 100%!!! No Offense to J/C guitars, fuck I love 'em, but they don't make a single bass worth a damn IMO. I also owned a couple MM 'Rays..shit I've owned every bass I can imagine in my 30 years. My very fave will ALWAYS be the G & L- L2000, which is like a refined Ray designed by Leo himself. They are everything a bass player could ask for, unless their just a metal thumper, which is cool. In fact, I'd never need a sig/or custom bass..because the G & L 2000 is perfect in every way...perfection!!

I've gotta start playing more and get my chops up again. I used to be pretty decent at tapping (even a little with the left hand). I wish I could do the 8-finger tapping thing like Jeff Watson, though! I need to buckle down and get back into things.
Those vids are cool, too. I do have a bass laying around, I should start playing that more with my fingers instead of a pick.

I used to be heavily into that playing style, but stopped doing it so much.

Steve Lynch also did that very well. I learned it the Watson way on bass but I didn't adapt it to anything really musical or original so I stopped..but that was pretty good. That gave me some fresh ideas tho..cool!

Oh hell yes..she's amazing. She requires that Clean Axe (sp?)dampening thing for open strings. I just used my wife's hair bungie thingy..or just tie a tube sock around the neck near the nut while practicing...hey, whatever works.

I agree with you horns, as much as the sting ray has increased in price I bet that would be expensive as hell. The last Bass guitar I bought was a headless USA Kramer "The Duke" I was just going to have a Bass Around to just do some recording with, then got a powerful Galien Kruger. Then I realized I just barely have time for guitars so I got rid of all of the bass stuff (Again) and swore to never buy any of it again.

This Kramer would make a cool conversation piece though
