Shit, well that makes sense. Uli's friend (Mike) stated it was a Fender..he just travelling and recording/compiling various shows. Both amp were ON and facing toward the wall..He saw the "F" on the Framus head and thought it was a Fender..but, it did have a metal grill. Both the Marshall and Framus was on and running..he walked over to both a couple to turn them up, especially during the end to Fly to the rainbow when he does all that feedback. Both amp were pretty cranked and in the back away from us..pointing to the wall so he was able to turn them up LOUD. Both cabs were mic'd and he used the side montor by his head to hear himself..how could he not that monitor was hurting my teeth. He did NOT switch between them...he never touch that switcher once during the show. I think he daisy chains the Marshall and Framus, or he's running them together.

Yes, I don't appear to be standing by the pedal board but I was , my wife was in front of me..you could see her cellphone in the first Uli live shot. I'm standing just over her her right shoulder. The only thing seperating Uli and us was the pedalboard..

Yes, John and I are the same age..nobody thinks we look our actual age..prolly the "metal" thing I guess.

At Jaxx, I understand that the band was running at something like 150db. All I know is that I had industrial-style earplugs in, and it was still loud.

Uli running two amps full bore in a small place probably has something to do with it...

I must be deaf, I was 5-10 ft out most of the show here and it was not seeming so bad...

Nah, it wasn't that bad where you were , even Val was OK because she's short and was just below earshot of the monitor Uli's monitor was mindnumbing in direct earshot! I insisted my monitor to be loud at a gig..but THAT was fuggin' ridiculous..that dude must be deaf man..That was the loudest show I been to in my life. My ears NEVER felt stuffed with cotton for 2 days after a show like that. Fuggin' Uli..he's old school running both a Super Lead and a Framus at full tilt toward the carpeted wall to get his sound. That is old school, or throwing a blanket over it or both. John and I knew that amp didn't look like any Fender we ever saw. I do know I like the the clarity of the guitar that with frets covered the the rythm pup..that guitar sounded much more focused! the other one sounded a bit more fuzzy.

Uli is the best player on the planet these days , there is none beter IMO! He rules!!

I believe you're referring to his original, six-string Sky Guitar, the one he played during this tour on the older songs in the second half of the set. He used his newer 7-string Sky Guitar on the material from the new album.

On Uli's previous U.S. tour, he didn't play the six-string Sky at all, having it onstage only as a backup. I can't quite figure out why he uses a 7-string, since he never seems to incorporate the low B string.

Yes, you're right. The 6 string had a single coil half buried under the extended fretboard. I don't know if that one is the dragon or the phoenix. That one could really "sing" . The 7 string seem to have much hotter pups. The blue light sustainer thing worked good when he got approx 2" to 3" from it. But the note would die if he got too close or too far. I would think installling a sustainer on the guitar would be more practical and consistant..but who am I to question the master??!!

There's something about Uli's playing man. I'm completely captivated the entire time. Not many players do that with me. Just a handful, but nothing like him.

I believe the pickups that are in Uli's 7 string were designed and built by John Oram. Oram also designed the "Reflex" active pickups and loads of other high end audio gear. I remember reading a while back that Uli was very impressed with the pickups when he got them. He stated that the Oram pickups sounded much better and provided a 3 dimensional feel and sound to them.

Both Sky guitars have "buried" neck pickups, I believe, but the original guitar is built a lot differently. It looked to me like the highest frets on the 6-string were actually attached to the body or the pickup itself, not to the neck, whereas the 7-string version has a more extended fretboard, with the neck pickup actually mounted underneath the neck. That's becoming more common now on extended-range guitars from small builders.
