  • Saw lynch last night.

He did a clinic for hal leonard here in Des moines at the store I teach at. Super nice guy, funny, and goes without saying kicks ass. Some on the board here think hes lost a "step", I assure you last night he was 90% spot on. I was there a little early when he came strolling in and pulled this out of the gig bag-

Thats me in the kiss shirt checking it out. Nate the tech at the store is the guy in black. George handed him the guitar, the low E was coming back sharp after dive bombs something binding in the nut. Nate go it working perfectly for the man. Played about an hour, give or take over some souls of we, and new lynch mob backing tracks.
Its a complete catastrophe. But Im a professional, I can rise above it. LOL

Great, sounds like it was a good event, nice you got to handle the merchandise.

That's some pressure on the store tech too.....a legend like Lynch hands you a guitar...."I'm going on in 15 minutes, fix it"

Cool Cliff ..>I< said that he lost it and walked out of a show a few years back. Lynch was one of my influences. There's other members that seen that tour as well, Toejam, Cleveland Metal. To say that we were disapponted is an understatement. I seen Dokken SIX times during George/Dokken's peek, and Lynch Mob once (1985-1993). The last time I seen Dokken was with Reb Beach (2000). The wife and I had VIPs and hung out with 'em all night. Cleveland Metal was at a private party with Dokken/Reb a couple years ago. Getting inside info why Don and co parted ways with George in the first place. Reb gives George alot of respect, especially once learning his stuff. Reb was 99% on, and it's not his material. I've watched all youtube vids of George, including the Dave Navarro interview. He's NOT the player he used to be.

But I'm not a playa hater. No, I've been a fan since the first Dokken record. I've been a EVH fan since 1978. Both are not what they used to be. Their playing skills have diminished with age. But, I aknowledge what they have given us. I would not be here talking about guitars or my balls if it wasn't for Eddie, but I'm no fanboy in denial. Players like George and Ed did their job and don't have to play another note IMO. They wrote some of the best guitar music in history. Ed's innovations go far beyond playing skills. Even if some are not fans, it still had an impact on them by using those innovations.

IE, Some players such as Uli only improved with age..there much proof of that on youtube, his mny releases, concerts and ect. His Sky guitars are his own innovations to assist him with his needs and creativity. Same goes with other players such as Vinnie Moore, Tony MacAlpine, Greg Howe, Steve Vai, Paul Gilbert, Warren D ect are some examples of improving or maintaining with age. Their skills NEVER diminished or came into question or scrutiny, not once. Did you know you can't locate a single song on youtube from "Smoke This'. Please, go ahead and try..I did! There is no trace of that whatsoever..like it never existed.

Not being a dick..I'm just being straight out honest. Maybe George bounced back, and brushed up his playing...but 90%?. I've been keeping my finger on his pulse all these years and never saw or heard 90%..not even close. I'd love to hear him write another T&N, UL&K, BFTA, WS, LM and Sacred Groove or something fiery or close. Not butchered, "modernized", slower, down tuned verions of classics he wrote when he was on his game. Who wants to hear down tuned, slower "modern" versions of On Fire, Light Up the sky, Atomic Punk, I'm the one, ect..I sure don't!!!

George is a guitar icon and meeting him would be great. He seems like a great guy. But I gave up on his playing abilities and writing for a very long time. I moved onto players that raised the bar so far out of reach..but I always loved a challenge. There was a time I would have butterflies in my stomach to even touch a guitar in his presence, but not these days. Not to say other players don't intimidate me..we know who they are.

Very cool event nonetheless! I'd loved to been there to see anything close to 90%. Even 70% would be very appreciated. I want to see these guys kicking ass these days..because I fuggin' love em!

That's good to hear bro. I heard he wasn't doin' that good during that tour. Rumor was he had some bad habbits. I heard he passed out at a couple gigs..

Good to hear him doing great again. Hey, Ed kicked ass again when he kept his head clear. I always mention those two together because they're my main influeneces for such a long time, and still are. I still put on classic Dokken. Me and my son were jammin' 'Kiss of Death' last week. I remember how to play that one..never did learn the solo tho. That would be a cool song to cover..one of my faves!

My son wanted me to show him how to do those sick pinch harms..Lynch gets 'em so good on that song!!

Lot of notes thrown around but done tastefully, a very rhythmic solo.
The solo has a strong rhythmic groove happening.
Even when he throws a slew a notes out and speeds up and slows down and it seems random, its not.
Everything in the solo connects and flows together rhythmically.
Another 80's player that comes to mind who as well was very rhythmic in his solo's, Jake Lee.
Bark at The Moon, a very rhythmic solo and I love that solo.

Learn the notes, then cop the feel/groove he's got going and you have it bro. Sometimes getting the groove first helps the ear to better hear the notes. Either way the solo is fun stuff.
Youtube is cool for these sort of things too if need be.

Contrary to what many may believe or disagree, not only this solo but most of George's Dokken stuff, was pentatonic in nature. He was real good with passing notes and tasteful subtle use of mixing various modes into a pentatonic lay out. Giving himself a unique interesting catchy bluesy vibe.
