I saw Satch & Paul Gilbert a few months back and it was enjoyable. It's a shame I was at the back (booked tickets at the last minute) but there were cool moments.
Funny thing is with Stu, is that it rhymes with "booo" so when the fans were chanting "Stuuuu!!! Stuuuu!!!", everyone else thought they were saying "booooooooo", haha!

I was at the toronto show as well, and the bass solo definatly was VERY cool, I knew Stu was killer as I've seen them back in the day, but this solo was very meoldic and vocal, and I think totally made the night better and less wanky! I'm vERY glad Joe didn't sing hahahahaha
I won the tickets too so it was a fun free night mostly!

I saw Satch a couple of nights ago at the Warner Theatre in D.C. Good show! I realized at the show that it's been 20 years since I first saw Satch--on his first real tour. Stu's solo is as great as ever. And I thought that Satch's playing was a little sharper than it was the last time I saw him a few years ago. He was in top form.
Leslie West & Mountain played an opening set, and then Leslie came out and jammed with Joe during the encore. Leslie is a very tasteful player, and you can really hear his influence on Joe when they are playing side by side.

What's Satch's setlist like these days? He's playing most of the tracks off of the "Professor" disc and mixing in a lot of "Surfing" and "Flying" tracks or is he concentrating more on latter day tunes?Takeoffs are optional but landings are mandatory.

I haven't had the pleasure of seeing Satch live, but I have a lot of his albums and dig a lot of his stuff, but it seems to me when watching live clips that it doesn't really translate well...always seems tame in some way..I guess the only currently active "instrumental" players that could really entertain me for an entire set would be Yngwie, PG and maybe someone like Uli Roth. I saw Vai a couple of years ago, which was very very cool but even then I had to leave 15 minutes early because it "got old". That being said, I think Satriani usually has much more "accessible" material than Vai does, but somehow he seems to fall short live.
Anyone else feel the same way, or should I cut old satchmo some slack?
btw The Extremist has a lot of way better tracks than summer song..!! IMHO
