      Ah the Anthrax equation

Here is another approach to it!

(Charlie + Scott) x inflated sense of entitlement - integrity = Anthrax 1992-2008

whatever the case may be, it is a shame that they went the direction they did. i think bush is a GREAT singer - very bluesy and souful - but anthrax's songs just weren't as good with him. they had a few tunes that just owned, but, album for album - they were shit.

i thought it was lame that they had dime come and play lead on that one CD. to me that kind of stuff means you can't keep a line-up together.

yes, i forgot about "state of euphoria." that is a great CD. after that....downhill into has-been land, which is a shame because charlie is a bad ass drummer and a killer riff writer.

        oh well....
        GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

        and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

not many bands can pull off a lead vocalist change. There are a few that can pull it off... once.not twice.not three times. once the revolving door of singers starts its hard to take a band seriously. That is the demise of many a great band. spreading the disease was great for me. among, was ok after that, i'm out like a fat kid in dodge ball.

Interesting comments about Scott and Charlie. I met them with Dan at a metallica show in New Jersey some time in the late 80s. They were all cool at shit and just hanging out, signing auotgraphs etc. downstairs at floor level near the bathrooms at Byrn Arena (I dont know what they call it now). How things change.

+1 although at the time that album came out it was perceived as a step back for them, and not in a good way. I think that's where they stalled out and never quite got to the next level. Persistence of Time was a killer album too.

I don't think they helped themselves either with the surf shorts, and skater look although they genuinely enjoyed that stuff as fans themselves. But they tried to bring all that into the Anthrax universe and I think for a lot of people it was gimmicky or cheesy.

                ....

Dime played on a couple of albums - Stomp 442 I'm sure he did a lead or two on, CHarlie played the rest if I recall correctly. Can't remember right, and my cd covers are all in a box out in my garden shed!
Dime also did the lead on "Cadillac Rock Box" from WCFYA. Which, incidentally is one of the best songs they ever did IMO.

I like all their albums, own them all, but without a settled guitar player they really lost the heart and soul a settled line up brings. And the fact even Frank couldn't take Scott and Charlie any more just proves what a pair of assholes they are.
Remember they were ripping the piss out of Belladonna when GOTE came out - saying Joey couldn't sing in tune and Bush was the REAL voice of those old songs.
Ten minutes later Joey was back in the fucking band with Scott and Charlie saying how cool it was!

                Fuck them!

BTW The bonus ballad type thing at the end of Stomp (I believe) is fucking awesome.

I saw Anthrax in 2006 on the reunion tour. There was an instore the day before the show at a local record store. Joey and Frank were really cool guys, Dan was a little quiet, but Scott and Charlie seemed a little like they didn't want to be there. Same deal on stage as well. Here's a photo of Charlie giving me a funny look while i'm wearing my SOD 'bigger than the devil' shirt. Crap album? Yes. But it's not like i'm the one that made it

Holy fuck is that joey wearing a HOT METAL t-shirt. I used to buy that mag religiously as a teenager for fuckin' years. Awesome.

Spreading The Disease is classic textbook thrash. Desert island type stuff. Up there with Master of Puppets and Rust In Peace. I really dig John Bush, love Armoured Saint, but I honestly haven't heard a complete Anthrax album with him that I liked.

The album's I've heard always have a couple of songs that I think is awesome and I feel like everything else is filler. Really disappointing. We've Come for you All was probably the most consistent but I'm not rushing back to listen to it. Although the song "Safe Home" fucking blew me away. I couldn't care who or what band played this, it is an incredible song. So much underlying emotion in a heavy rock song. But once again some great songs some not so great.

And bigger than the devil is a classic album as well. Black War is my anthem.

exactly. metallica made a change, but it worked for them - a lot of us hated it, but it WORKED. anthrax, hmmmm, they TRIED, but fell on their faces. they would have faired better staying true to their sound and going underground for a while instead of trying to chase the dollars.

i think bush is an awesome singer, shit, i'd LOVE to have a voice like that fronting MY band - hahaha, so did metallica. i remember reading that they were trying to get bush very early on, but he was happy with armored saint. it certainly wasn;t bush as a singer that fucked up anthrax, it was the shitty songs!!!! as somebody mentioned, they have a couple good tunes per album then the rest are filler. what a shame....

oh well, sucks for them....at least we still have a few killer CD's to listen to!!

I haven't listened to Anthrax in years. I loved Fistful with Neil Turbin, all the stuff with Joey, even SOWN and Stomp 442 with John. I just stomped listening to them after that. When I did last listen to the stuff with Joey, I didn't care for his voice as much as I used to. I prefer John.
My first concert was Anthrax on the Among The Living tour in 1987, at the Capitol Theater in Passaic, NJ. I was 15. Actually met Billy Milano at that show, and he was very cool!
Here's a big pic of myself and two friends with Billy. I don't know who the chick is, just someone who worked there and was selling candy. I'm pretty sure her hair killed the ozone. I'm the short guy with the glasses.
I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.
