I definitly know what you are saying, I feel the Hammond B3 is the keyboard that really fits in best with heavy guitar, my favorites bands were Deep purple and Rainbow.

I also liked Yes and ELP in those bands the synths were more dominate and the guitar was more in the backround or they had more worked out parts which seemed to work.

I think for just Guitar Bass and Drums to work you would need a guitarist who doesn't just do power chords for rythem, but all the cool fills like Ritchie Blackmore does (did)

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

The trading off between YJM and his goof keyboard player is pretty cool here, but the
keyboard patch is cheesy, although you can program some simple and real cool heavy sounding analog lead patches.

Symphony X rules all. Check out their latest album, Paradise Lost. It doesn't have a lot of keyboards on it. From there, I'd check out (in this order) V, Odyssey, Divine Wings of Tragedy, Twilight in Olympus, Damnation Game. The farther back you go, the more synth there is, but it NEVER is used as filler.
