Thanks for posting that link RB. Though I've never really considered Mick an influence on my playing, I'm betting he was, more than I probably realize. I have always respected him for his laid back demeanor, especially being surrounded by such..um..interesting band mates. I have even more respect for him now that I know more about his condition. Funny they mention the Bark at the Moon tour, first time I saw the Crue live...I still remember the spray painted plywood "rocks" at the front of the stage .

How true - kind of like Brian May.

Mick's live tone was always huge. Shame he doesn't get the credit he deserves.

I'm in a band where the drummer has this. Yeah, the drummer. The guy doses himself up with pain meds, real strong stuff you can only get from the hospital or something (he just started some stronger ones) and then rehearses or plays with us. Sometimes I'll see him feeling the pain or suffering but he plays through. He's good, and we're grateful, same with Mr. Mars. Long may he continue!

thinking about it now, Mick Mars is probably the "famous rocker" I play most like. playing some nice blues licks overtop of some hard rock riffs

The thing that drives me crazy about his riffs is tuning down to D standard. Damn what a PITA!! Worth it though...

If you haven't read "The Dirt", do yourselves a favor and get to it...
It tells all about Mick's condition and a bunch of other stories from their formation and crazy rise through stardom.

Mick is great player with great tone. Just listen to Dr. Feelgood. That guitar tone is crushing yet crystal clear.

When I was younger and more into the "shredder" guys, I used to kinda laugh about Mick (even though I've always liked the Crue)....

Now that I'm older, wiser, and play Crue tunes, I can appreciate just how fukin awesome Mick has always been!!!

I loved those old Kramers he had. In one of the videos, he had a Tele model with a Floyd. Bad-ass. The Floyded Strats are bitchin', too. Mick's rhythm tone was excellent.
8 strings? Because 6 is too easy?

I got the dirt for Christmas and had it read before the following Saturday. Crue opening for Ozzy was the first concert I got to go to sans parents. I wish they would try to go back to that too fast for love sound. That is by far my fav of their stuff.

                          Excellent read.

The Crue has a special spot in my heart because they're part of what got me into metal. I had just started the 6th grade. I got Motley Crue - Too Fast For Love & Shout at the Devil for my birthday. I then unwrapped another box with Judas Priest - Screaming For Vengence & Defenders Of The Faith. From that point on it was fast, riff induced, singers that sctually sing, METAL for me.

Absolutely. During other discussions about the crue on this board I have also mentioned this, although in slightly different words as to how I feel regarding Mick's place in rock/metal. Motley was definitely a band of equal parts, each member contributing to the whole.

I was this way too. It seemed everyone could play faster and flashier but I was listening to Theatre of Pain one day something just clicked. I kinda got Mick. From that day on I've really appreciated Mick's style. He can do all the flashy stuff but usually only uses it here and there when he sees fit. Hmm considering Mick's condition that's a really bad pun.

Wow. I've never really listened to that much Crue, but that story is inspiring. Kudos to the man.
