Some dudes are changing their endorsements companies so often... just to get the best deal... the biggest amount of free guitars etc. I understand but isn't metal suppose to be against that? And besides when you get so many free instruments from one company.... you only need a couple of them for the touring. And in the studio you are gonna use many different guitars from many different brands anyway... It's very common that the artist doesn't use any of those instruments which he is endorsing.

For example I would do brand whoring and other shit freely because I don't associate myself with metal ideology... but who state they are true metal or something like that and whore for free guitars and other goodies then they are just plain posers
I never heard of metal meaning taking a vow of poverty. Metal is about doing what you want to do. If that means shopping for the best deal in endorsements, nothing wrong with that at all.

The fact is that a lot of endorsed bands are NOT raking in the big bucks and have to make endorsement deals including cash in order to supplement their incomes. The record deals for metal bands are not nearly as lucrative now as they were in the 80s.

Also, not everybody is married to one brand. I like J/C guitars, but I like other brands as well. The whole "Jacksons rule and everything else sucks" line is kind of juvenile. If it's made of the same woods with the same pickups to the same level of craftmanship, it doesn't matter what logo is on the headstock.

If you want to stick to one brand no matter what, you have every right. If someone wants to get paid for his fame and they will still make him guitars he enjoys playing, why shouldn't he do that?

If Jackson actually signed these guys to a decent deal, that would be great as it would show a change of strategy in their marketing to go after more name endorsed artists.

On the other hand, FMIC is rumored to be coming up with some major price increases, so if that translates to the Jackson line as well, let's see if it's worth it to you for the Trivium guys to play Jacksons if you have to pay a lot more yourself to have them on the roster.

vow of poverty?... wow where did that come?

If metal is about music and doing what one wants to do... then the artists would promote the instruments which he/she actually plays because they are the best tools for his music... not compromises. Posing with some cheap ass LTD that no one is gonna use on the record or even in live gigs is not really doing what you want to do.

The record deal NEVER were lucrative for metal bands... the cash came from touring and merch sales. And by the way, these days you can earn a lot more from the concerts than in the 80's. Compare the ticket prices. Of course you gotta have a decent amount of crowd to buy them but these days there's bazillion huge festivals which guarantee the cash flow. No one is gonna live like a rockstar these days but no one is like a bum either like many were in the 80's

I agree but who the heck was talking about this subject here?

If someone wants to get paid for his fame and they will still make him guitars he enjoys playing, why shouldn't he do that?
Yes exactly when HE ENJOYS playing them... Otherwise it's being a poser... and isn't metal against that?

I honestly don't give a fuck about Jackson's marketing plans and whatnot but I'm somewhat glad that they don't sign all these new fad-bands like so many other brands do. As I've said before I play Jacksons ONLY because they sound really good... I don't care how popular or unpopular they are and I don't care who endorses them although deep down I would feel some comfort if some lousy bands wouldn't use the same instruments as I do

They should play jacksons corey always does in the studio, and matt uses his trusty les paul custom.
Good buisiness sense to grant them the jackson deal , they are a big band with a big following, whether you like them or not is subjective, they can play well sell records, silly not to throw and endorsement at them.

Where it came from is that Jackson has been noted for stingy endorsement deals to its artists. Even Mustaine was cut to one guitar a year prior to leaving Jackson. Many Jackson endorsees only get cost-plus endorsements.

So if ESP offers you an endorsement with money involved and will make you a guitar that is comparable enjoyable for you to play, like they did with Laiho for example, why not take it? Why instead starve so the fanboys can think you're troo?

And if somebody doesn't know that the LTD is gonna be a far cry from what their idol is playing, well that is widespread knowledge and they shouldn't blame the sig artist. everybody knows that a JS30KV isn't the same as a KV-1, too, right?

So I don't have a problem with someone making money on endorsements to supplement their income. Hence, no vow of poverty.

matt the singer is signed with gibson and they actually made him do signings at the muskimesse wich is weird cause I dont see gibson actually showing off their metal artist. and now the guy has like 6 les paul customs, a explorer and a epiphone 7string until he gets his custom gibby 7stringer, he didnt buy all of these for sure!
I wonder what it feels like to have money...

...ahhh fuck it guitars are better!
