I'm a Goldie man myself. He played warlocks (very cool), and helped to write the masterpiece that was "Dream Evil". He's not as flashy as Vivian, more of an unsung hero.

Aerosmith "Train Kept a Rollin", without Joe Perry.
One of the coolest songs Joe didn't play, but got credit for too often.

Thin Lizzy with John Sykes on vocals comes to mind but I'm ok with that because he had a guitar spot in the band in the early '80s and the songs are so great anyway. The two versions of LA Guns throw me for a loop though, I prefer the Traci Guns led outfit but the Phil Lewis led version has some kickass guitarists. He has Stacey Blades now but before he had Keri Kelli, whose playing I think is really impressive. He's a good hired gun and I am pretty sure he's in Cooper's band now.

Black Sabbath without Ozzy had to be the worst for me.... and I really dig Ronnie James Dio.

Speaking of Sykes, how bout Whitesnakes self-entitled album from 1987. All you saw was Campbell and Vandenberg on the vids and on tour, but Sykes played all the g parts save 1 solo that was Vand's.

Oh, and seeing Brad Gillis play with Ozzy on the same stage setup as Randy...eerie, though he did a decent job for what little time he had.

Same here. Can't listen to Sabbath without Ozzy.

                        I agree.
When I was younger I didnt like hearing Ronnie sing the old Sabbath material, cause I was on Ozzy's side
I dont mind it much anymore though, especially after DeHumanizer. I'm a huge fan of Rainbow,Dio, and Sabbath, so I really dont know why that rubbed me the wrong way.
I liked the Born Again album with Ian Gillen, but I did not like the Tony Martin era...That wasnt even Sabbath really.
Skid Row without Sebastian Bach just isnt right either.
It's hard for vocalists to replace someone in a band that has a cult following. I guess some guitarists go through that as well. I could only imagine the shit that Jake E. Lee had to deal with back then. I wouldn't want to go through that on my best day.

Spewing from the mouth of hell'

When bands mess with changing singers, that seems to be the biggest challenge. Not many replacements meet or exceed expectations. Some successes: Van Halen got really lucky when they switched to Sammy. Bruce Dickinson didn't have big shoes to fill so he ruled from the start. There are far more singers that fell short.
On the other hand, putting emotion aside, it's much easier to replace instrument players than a signature singer.

ACDC did just fine with Brain Johnson. Though I must admit, there is something missing when they do Bon Scott era songs.

                            How about that Corabi dude that replaced Vince;

I've not heard any renditions of Motley Crue standards with him in the lineup, but obviously he wasn't well recieved with the fans.

What about the Guitarists from Red Hot Chili Peppers? Frusciante did a good job replacing Hillel and he also did a good job of replacing himself since no one acknosledges that Navarro was in the band
