Saw him at NAMM, he's looking old... As someone his age should I guess.

I know the controversey over albums that are not fully instrumental, but this is one that I have to mention...

        Marc Bonilla - American Matador

It has THE best ever cover of "I Am The Walrus" (which is an instrumental, along with several other intrumental tracks) recorded. (Paul Gilbert and Andy Timmons did a great version of it at NAMM, but I didn't get video or audio of it)

Marc Bonilla's American Matador was unbelievable. Whatever happened to him?

Last I heard, he was doing movie and tv music stuff. You know the opening theme to the tv show ER, he played that little guitar part in there. No idea if he's still doing that kind of work.

Liquid Tension Experiment - Liquid Tension Experiment

Joe Satriani – Flying in a Blue Dream

Jeff Beck – Blow by Blow

The Hellecasters -The Return of the Hellecasters

The Dixie Dregs – Night of the Living Dregs

Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin and Paco de Lucía – Friday Night in San Francisco

David Sanborn – Straight to the Heart (not much guitar here but still a fav)

Fourth Estate – Finesse and Fury

For those not familiar with Fourth Estate they were a Denver band, from the late 80's early 90’s that never quite hit the big time.
They were a 3 piece (gtr, bass, drums) that, for lack of a better description, played rock instrumentals-all members were top-notch musicians.
I’m not sure what became of the members since that time but Dave Beegle, the guitarist, has gone on to release
his own stuff that shows his talents in Jazz, Classical, Flamenco, etc, styles.

                    DISCLAIMER:
I am not Dave Beegle, nor do I work for, or are in anyway affiliated with Fourth Estate or Dave Beegle.
If you don’t find the music appealing that’s cool, we all have different tastes.
I like the music and I’m just sharing it with ya’ll here on the forum.

                    ANYWAY:
Here’s a Fourth Estate video from YouTube. On this song, it’s more about melody than shred factor.
I also want to point out that the video and audio don’t quite to sync up. Not sure what that’s about- I didn’t make the video.
I also want to mention that the only text comment to this video says “Cool, but it’s not Dave Beegle.”
Dave and my paths crossed many times and it’s Dave, no doubt.
                    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7MdgHF4rY0

Here are a couple of Dave Beegle YouTube videos.
This first one is cool because it never crossed my mind to use an Ebow on an acoustic.
                    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Im6GoRCAkfQ&feature=related

This second one is a favorite of mine because it’s something I would have been proud to have written, It’s beautiful.
                    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpyyngKCx4Q&NR=1

There is also an official Dave Beegle website if you wish to explore his music more.

                    Peace

I like the instrumental stuff, but don't listen too often to it. I have some of the more popular stuff mentioned, but what's not mentioned that I really dig is James Murthy's 2 cds Convergence and Feeding the MAchine, especially the 1st one. Yes, they're not 100% instrumental cds since they're guest vocals on a few tracks, like Chuck Billy, who kicks ass; but it's a damn good music.

Somewhere I have a couple older guitar mag-sanctioned cds with guest players such as zakk, gilbert, sheehan etc, Anyone else have these.
"Your work is ingenius…it’s quality work….and there are simply too many notes…that’s all, just cut a few, and it’ll be perfect."

                              Andy Timmons Band - "Resolution"
Steve Morse Band - "Southern Steel" and "High Tension Wires"
Joe Stump - "Speed Metal Messiah"
Paul Gilbert - "Get Out Of My Yard"

And for something a little more "classic" in flavor, I've been listening to all of the discs from a Swedish instrumental band called Plankton. Very cool stuff, lots of emphasis on melody and phrasing. And they use all vintage equipment for their tones (lots of old Marshalls and vintage Strats).
Takeoffs are optional but landings are mandatory.
