Hahha..does Zakk even own a motorcycle?? I saw him on a kid's tricycle once. It's on youtube. I like Zakk..he means well, I think. The best thing he done on his own was 1919 Eternal. That's the best BLS release IMO. He's very redudnadant and he puts too much out, too soon and most of it isn't catchy or speacial really. He's a good player tho.

I think he's cool with Dave Grohl. Dave seemed to show that he actually is a fun guys and metalhead at heart. He does write some good songs. I don't buy his stuff but it's pretty cool.

Reb Beach would make a good Ozzy player. Hey, if he could learn Lynch's stuff note for note on short notice and cover Night Ranger and Whitesnake gigs..then ..well....shit.

I don't think it was the recording. You can hear Jake loud and clear, which isn't a good thing on THAT clip. Ray was awesome tho!

If the kiddies hear anything close to that at Ozzfest..they're going to be throwing the fuggin' eggs!

But when I got the record I thought he sounded like a mix of Frank Marino and John Sykes. Later I learned those two were huge influnces. His uber fast pent-box shapes are 100% Marino..and John Syke should get a royalty check everytime Zakk does a ping. Actually Sykes does just as many but they're not overdubbed and boosted in the mix. He does more "pings" live tho. Ozzy coined them "pings", and that they drive him crazy..

I like all the Ozzy players really. After NRFTW, he had writers, producers calling the shots. Zakk was really pissed about that..he actually wanted to kick Dave Grohl's ass. I remember in a GW he stated he had to play one of Dave's "piece of shit" songs live every night. Then he said "Fuck him and Shitvana, let's see Dave Growl play the solo to Mr. Crowley". He compared it to someone taking the guitar out of Eddie's hands and telling him to play this..It kinda makes sense.

It would be nice to let Zakk actually write the songs on the Ozzy records. He just does his "job". I got rid of anything after NMT. Ozzy's last couple just completely sucked balls!!! Fuggin' horrible!!!

"I don't wanna stop"..Please Ozzy, maybe you should.. just stick with Sabbath.
I'll tell ya what Zakk's problem is... Alcohol. Just like Dime in the last few years of his life, EVH, and Schenker, alcohol abuse ruined their ability or drive to play to at a level they are capable of playing at. Once you get up around 40, you can't "party like a rockstar" on a daily basis and expect to bring it... your body just can't shake it off like it can when you're young.

It is a shame too, because I think Zakk is a talented player/musician and could really do some great stuff. He may work withing a limited framework, but he's fast, clean, and plays with alot of fire (when he's on), and gets alot of mileage out of those Pentatonics. Let's not forget the chicken pickin' stuff he used to do in the Pride and Glory days. Lately, he just mailing it in IMO.

I'm going to see BLS on the 31st and I'm curious to see how he plays. I heard he had a health scare of some sort because of his drinking and has cleaned up his act.

I like BLS a lot more the what Zakky has been doing with Ozzy as of late. I have to agree he puts out too much stuff and doesn't really refine any of it. It's just like a shit buffet, sure there might be little gems, come colorful corn and carrots, but there's just too much stinking going on. Usually he has two songs per 10 that are worth listening to, the rest just sound like they were written recorded on the spot and forgotten. Like a collection of scratch demos instead of a real album.
In the future though I need to remember to not buy guitars while on Nyquil

Indeed, the Probot CD is more metal than Zakkary has ever been...not much of a Nirvana/Foo Fighters fan, but I have money that Grohl could knock out the Mr. Crowley solo without much of a problem, it's just that's he's playing music that doesn't call for shredding...

I don't know what Zakk is still doing playing with Ozzy anyway. I remember about 5 years ago when Ozzy was actively looking for another guitarist, he gave up because "no-one can play solos anymore".

OK, so I'd love to send him my tape, but I'm not fit to polish any of his previous guitarists' shoes. Still, there are SO many players out there who could wipe the floor with Mr Wylde, without being too widdly. (Remember the complete Ozzy album that Steve Vai recorded, but got binned and re-recorded by Zakk?)

I mean, Jake aside, (who is a spent force, I imagine, sadly), what about any of those players mentioned above - Lynch, Gary Moore (fucking great suggestion there. Ozzy once said "he has a face like a welder's bench"), or someone like Viv Campbell (from back when he played with Dio, not sure about his playing now, not paid much attention), even Warren De Martini?

There are many many players who could fill Zakk's shoes and no-one would even miss him. The thing is that Sharon seems to think Ozzy is "down with the kids", and that the kind of little scrote that packs out Download to see some band I've never heard of, is going to want to see Ozzy with a hero of their generation.
This is false, the kind of people that go to see Ozzy, buy Ozzy LPs, are people like me, round about 40. I don't want to see some 20 yr old twat with his hair all combed forward and his arse peeping out of his trousers, because, and here Ozzy was right, they don't understand how to solo.

I don't know why Ozzy doesn't kick Sharon in the minge, tell her to butt out, then phones up John Sykes and asks him if he fancies a couple of years work before Ozz croaks. They'd enjoy it, write some good CLASSIC rock, which is the ONLY place Ozzy is relevant, I'd enjoy it because I wouldn't be watching some kiddywink trying to play with the older kids, and all the little kiddiwink fans would enjoy it because they wouldn't keep having some ex-wildman of rock thrust upon them and being told they must love him because he is an elder statesman of Heavy Metal.
So I woke up,rolled over and who was lying next to me? Only Bonnie Langford!

Can I ask something that hasn't been answered here?
I LOVE Jake, but what the hell ever happened to making more music with Badlands?
I have the first CD and it was great. Then nothing.

Can someone fill in some blanks for me? I read somewhere about a spat with his daughter, Jade?

                    Thanks~

They did a second LP, "Voodoo Highway", which is pretty good, and then a third "Dusk", which I've never even seen, apparently released in 1998.

Don't know about any spat, but Ray Gillen died of some AIDS related thing, did he have throat cancer too? That was in 1993-4 time.

Ray died of AIDS contracted through IV drug use...Jake himself told me that. There was no interest in replacing Ray as he was really the driving force behind the formation of Badlands...it actually took a call from Ray's mother to get Jake to even consider the project

Voodoo Highway and Dusk are both awesome...required listening for Jake fans.

Jake was (is) the MAN! I saw him twice and his playing and tone was spot on. I saw Zakk once...His tone was shrill and about ripped my head off. He also did not do Jake or Randy any justice on the older material. Jake can play and write songs, which is a skill that Zakk is pretty hit or miss on. Zakk "pinged" my head all night...got old fast. I use technique quite a bit I admit...someone said that sounds like Zakk. I said, "no, I learned that from Jake, not sure where he got it from"

Someone once counted the amount of pinch harmonics Zakk did during Crazy Train and it was upwards of 50. When Billy Gibbons does it, I listen. When Zakk does it, I turn the channel.
