Josh- Hear what you're saying, and I'd particularly agree with your point on VH.

I believe that Megadeth is more of the exception. Maiden can, and did, limp on without BD. Sabbath was a different, but still great, band with Dio, and Van Hagar obviously was very, very successful. I consider Megadeth to be more of an exception in that sense than the rule- It would almost be as goofy as Bon Jovi without....well, Bon Jovi.

Agreed. To Dave's credit, Megadeth has mostly sounded the same no matter who was in it. In my mind that's a good thing.
He certainly comes across as being obnoxious though, and it grates me when he talks about his lead players (especially Marty and Chris Broderick) being teachable.

The bottom line is Dave can write songs...He works at it and doesn't cut corners. Not every song is great but his ratio of good to bad is much better than most bands together.

Chris Broderick is an amazing multi-layered player, he does it all and nothing he does is boring. he's technically better than Marty and that's saying a mouthful. cause Marty is freekin awesome and a big favorite of mine.
the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives

Rusty Cooley is 'technically' better than Marty Friedman too, but he sucks the big one when it comes to witting cool material. I'm also not certain if Broderick could play all the Cacophony material, let alone create it. I hope Broderick succeeds in Megadeth, but no matter what, they will never create another Rust In Peace album.

Huh? Where'd you hear that? Ellefson tried suing Mustaine, and there was bad blood. Have you listened to the lyrics of "Something That I'm Not"? I'm pretty sure that song is about Ellefson.

Dave fuggin' rules with whatever piece if shit guitar he plays. It's just a tool to convey his music..that's it, and something he can make a buck on like everyone esle does..so what.

Chris Broderick is a very humble, greatful, down to earth dude..there is nothing scary about him other than his talent. He wasn't always like that..he was pretty rough around the edges when he joined Jag Panzer in '98. He improved big time, with lots of dedication and hard work. Playing with Jeff Loomis kicked him in the ass, and is a huge influence of his.

BTW you can thank Jeff for Marty being in Megadeth to begin with. He got that gig by default because Jeff was much too young at age 16 to upstage Dave every night.

I absolutely agree about Rust Cooley. Great, articulate player but his writing is mediocre at best.

Dave is a great writer! Megadeth always was and will be Dave Mustaine..no matter who plays second fiddle.

I absolutely disagree...not an accurate analogy

I think the current Megadeth line-up is great with the exception of Shawn Drover. Something about his drumming just feels loose and sluggish. Lacks that tightness Menza brought to the table which I thought really complimented Mustaines guitar playing.
Shawn Drover is a human metronome, and an amazing guitarist himself. He is the driving force of Eidolon. He writes most of the guitar parts that his bro Glen Drover plays. He is a muscian that sees the big picture. Menza is a drummer and a terrible writer..don't belive me?.Check out that joke of a solo album he put out several years ago.

Joe, you're only seeing a part of the picture. You've got to remember, Mundane disbanded the group, swearing up and down that he'd never tour again, that his family was too important. He also dropped the bomb that his arm was all fucking "paslified" and that his career was probably over.

Needless to say, I'm sure Ellefson, being a musician, had to start making plans and looking towards the future. He was also asked to rejoin Megadeth when Dave decided to put the band back together, but if I remember right, he was being brought back as a "hired hand" and a significant reduction in pay. That's when he sued Mundane.

Ellefson's biggest mistake was hiring some chump attorney who worded the lawsuit like a fucking 13 year old girl. One of my favorite lines was "Dave Mustaine dissed me."
