Metallica, but only by a hair. Mostly because I think james has a much better voice then dave. If it were a battle of the more talented soloists then dave > kirk but overall i still have to hand it to metallica. but just barely

musicianship doesn't have anything to do with good songwriting and 80's Metallica was hardly pop... either way I don't care... I like pop and a good songs is a good song no matter what genre it is

In my opinion Metallica wins with a slight edge as I think they are overall better songwriters and innovators.

Megadeth all the way! I loved Metallica too but they lost their edge some time ago. Say what you want about Dave but he IS consistent. Love em or hate em he is Dave. (I personally hope he never changes)
    IMHO

    Going with Metallica.
As a band, they are solid players on each instrument.Lars is blasting those drums, James & Kurt are trading stuff back and forth and either Robert or Jason are right there with Lars laying down the grooves.

Megadeth, while making some great guitar rock songs, have had a revolving cast and FOR ME, it's hard to be loyal to a band if you're not sure who is in it right now.

Dont' care what they are playing, so far as they are good & melodic. Just cause its got Jackson on the headstock, doesn't make you a Guitar God.

I love the Megadeth songs for rocking the hell out but, after seeing Metallica and watching their stuff just oooooze musicianship, I am more partial to them.

I haven't got to see Dave and his guys live, but it comes off to be him & the other guys. I have a bunch of each of their DVDs and this is all I have to go off of.

    That is my two cents~

feel free to throw things at me now...

Megadeth by a mile. Far more interesting from a guitar standpoint and their last couple of albums haven't sucked balls.

But prior to 1990? If I wasn't 8 years-old and not listening to any music, I'd probably have to give the crown to Metallica.

I gotta say, Rust and Piece and Master of Puppets, to me, are right up there - #1 & #2 as far as Metal goes for me... but, I like a lot of Metallica, and really, I don't like much Megadeth beyond RIP.

When I was a teenager (late 80's) I would have handed this to Metallica without question but now it's a really tough call. Hearing the remastered KIMB I think it's easily on par with Kill Em All but at the time they had better things to do with their money than quality production (drugs). Peace Sells is easily on par with Ride the Lightning although a totally different sound. However, SFSGSW throws a monkey wrench in the works VS. Master of Puppets by sucking balls. RIP is definitely a competitor to AJFA although a few years late, if not a flat out better album. From there on out it's Dave's battle to lose.

Metallica for me, I can't get on with any Megadeth after So far so good, I really tried to get into RIP but for I just don't like it.

also up to St Anger Metallica didn't put a foot wrong in my book (yes, I like load and reload!)

Hm.. I think Metallica has more "hits", but I think the "hit" Megadeth songs (Not talking about trust or any of that shit.) are a lot better. Rust In Peace is probably one of my favorite albums. I do like Metallica a lot though...

Oh, and this has a big part to do with why Megadeth > Metallica, in my book.
