Ohhhhhh I fucked up. I actually like All That Remains. I was confused with of these silly band names. I though t it was As I Lay Dying or some shit..one of those fag wannabe metal bands..
WTF..All That Remains covered Nevermore's "Beleive in Nothing" !! I swear if their gay cover becomes a hit, I'm gonna shit a light brown Fiat!!..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOoocD4azd0
Mark..I have King's entire body of work ( and then some) and yes it is awesome. But you have NOT heard Nevermore's body of work. Which is unforunate because you are really missing out some of the best music you ever heard. I want to fix that , because I love you.
Jeff does play slow melodic stuff that is just mind blowing..Check out the 10+ year old song "Believe in nothing'. That song is better than what most bands will be putting out 10 years from now..but it went right under the radar.
It's just like when most people, including myself blew off King Diamond/ Merciful Fate..they never gave it a chance because of his voice, because he was different. Now he's been one of my very faves.
sorry bill, we gotta disagree on this one. loomis is a great player, seem slike a nice guy, but sounds like every other shredder out there....even to the point where he uses wide vibrato at the end of all his soloing phrases.
give me the more blues based classic metal soloing with melody ANY and EVERY day of the week:
Going with Metallica.
As a band, they are solid players on each instrument.Lars is blasting those drums, James & Kurt are trading stuff back and forth and either Robert or Jason are right there with Lars laying down the grooves.
Megadeth, while making some great guitar rock songs, have had a revolving cast and FOR ME, it's hard to be loyal to a band if you're not sure who is in it right now.
Dont' care what they are playing, so far as they are good & melodic. Just cause its got Jackson on the headstock, doesn't make you a Guitar God.
I love the Megadeth songs for rocking the hell out but, after seeing Metallica and watching their stuff just oooooze musicianship, I am more partial to them.
I haven't got to see Dave and his guys live, but it comes off to be him & the other guys. I have a bunch of each of their DVDs and this is all I have to go off of.
That is my two cents~
feel free to throw things at me now...
Lars has to be the worst drummer ever!!!
Dave can outplay James or Kirk, anyday!!! Freidman can put them all to shame.
Only thing metallica has on megadeth, or had, is Cliff Burton, IMHO that band died with him
i saw NM open for mercyful fate on the "9" tour, i think it was.....they were pimping a record called "dreaming neon black"(?) maybe? anyway, i found them a bit dull and lifeless. too much meedly-mee compared to mercyful fate, whom i find to be where i strive to be musically - more on the hank sherman side of things....
Dreaming Neon Black is awesome... a very dark and bass heavy album, a concept album about Warrel's ex-girlfriend who joined a cult and disappeared.

Warrel is a creepy version of Geoff Tate, but quite distinctive and one of the reasons to listen to Nevermore. It stands out because there's so much very lame and boring vocalists in metal these days.
Oh yeah - I dig Jeff's solo stuff - very cool. Much respect for Jeff... just not into the NM stuff so far.
That was supposed to be a NM song. I can feel where you're coming from though, most people think that Warrels vocals are gay at first, but then they grow into them.. I was floored by the guitar work at first so I kept listening and eventually grew to like the vocals. It's nice hearing metal singers that can actually sing and don't sound like shit live.
