Ha Ha, we probably met then! I don't go back as far as the greyhound though.

It did get that way towards the end. When we played it was a 3 band set and most of the stuff I saw there was the same. There was an uncommonly large number of bullshit local bands there though. All played the same emo garbage and thought they were more hard done by than the last.

The Campbell annoyed me, always full of kids. Same with the Cross (although I hear it has changed again) and the Dog was possibly the worst.

GT, I know Toejam for one is a big Overkill fanboy.

      • Metallica vs Megadeth

I'd say Metallica, Master of Puppets , And Liberty and Justice just are better togeather, than any two Megadeth put togeather. But by a nose.

          • Love BOTH bands. Worship Friedman and worship Hetfield all the more.

Metallica's pre-St Anger stuff just flows and breathes much, much, much better. It is organic and just solid musicianship, firing on every fuckin cylinder.

Megadeth, all too often, sounds contrived and stale, on all levels (lyrics, arrangements, riffs,...)

And now the kicker, A LOT (if not most) of that awesome arranging and fluid composition in Metallica's stuff comes down to Lars Ulrich. You might not like him as a drummer or his drumming, in se, but goddamn does he know his music.
You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.

            • Wassup GOR!!,

I disagree. Like I've said before, Dave kept his finger on the pulse of who, what, where and when with the metal scene. He promotes top shelf TRUE metal bands/players with his Gigantour. His knowledge of Glen Drover and Chris Broderick is absolute proof of this. He knew who they where, liked their work and that's how he picks 'em. He's still in the know.

Lars WAS a devoted metahead, and was heavily influenced by his favorite bands that shaped the classic metallica songs we all love. He was a huge fan of Cirith Ungol, Diamonhead, Holocaust, Angelwitch, Slaughter (not the gay band), ...a active supporter of Kerrang and ect. He was a major tape trader back in the day..which was the lifeblood of the underground metal scene. His denim was covered with patches of his favorite bands. That was a big way other bands were promted and how he met James..Metallica was born. I'm really stating the obvious here (Heavy Metal parking lot). Things are a bit more convienent these days. No more "tape trading". Word of mouth is as fast as a click of the mouse. The Metallica camp completety lost touch with it's metal fanbase with their newfound success and direction. They happily and openly admitted that. Megadeth stayed the course, with the exception of "Risk" (perfect name). Which was a direct result of Metallica new radio friendly direction..much like many bands did during the mid to late 90's. Dokken, Lynch Mob, Dream Theater, Queensryche, Fates Warning, Ratt, Whitesnake, Judas Priest..yada yda ALL tried something and many flopped big time. Now it's safe to rock out gain which allows bands such as Winger, Night Ranger, (add guitar solo oriented band here) to do their thing again and actually draw a crowd.

That is why Megadeth will lead polls on guitar/metal forums..but we are few but the mainstream will dictate the rule. That's what what ate like Dave like a fuggin' cancer. "Metal"lica became bigger than ever when there was no metal scene. But Dave's has been keeping very busy, as Metallica will be busier than ever since they're..back home..so to speak. Some of their old fans are starting to come back..which is a good thing. Completley abandoning your style and fanbase to fit in what is popular seems a bit more "contrived" to me. If they evolved by going forward at that time , then why are they going backwards now. For me, Godsmack and Metallica started to sound like the same band..see whats I sayin'. That's not the case now because they..ummmm de-evolved...

I don't like Death Magnetic enough to buy it, but if they stay on this path. They're gong to hone the skills once lost and prolly put out something I'll actually like next time around. They are trying..the effort is there and that is obvious in their live shows!

Someday Dave will open for Metallica. That's prolly not much of a stretch. It's a business, and buisness is good. Hey, Sammy and Dave did it a while back, Dave and Ed did it..who knew?

BTW, I used more popular bands as examples for easy consumption. If like Load era Metallica..I strongly suggest checking out AM I BLOOD..they're on youtube.

              Man, I'm tired..

              later,

              Bill Z

Megadeth stayed true to METAL while Metallica strayed away. Now Metallica is back...so who cares?

Here is a pic of Kerry King in 1984...with Megadeth!! He played the first five shows...
